Salary: $64,664 - $119,032 annually, depending on experience.

FLSA Status: Exempt

Benefits: 12 sick leave days of which 6 can be used for personal leave each school year; 5 days bereavement leave per school year; health insurance benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) including medical, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance for employee and eligible dependents. Overview

The Health Science Academy Career & Technical Education (CTE) teacher supports Shelton School District’s Strategic Plan and Shelton High School's School Improvement Plan by delivering high-quality instruction in a career-focused pathway that prepares students for a wide range of in-demand healthcare careers. Key responsibilities include implementing district-approved curriculum, monitoring and documenting student progress, addressing diverse learning needs, and fostering a safe, supportive, and engaging classroom environment. The teacher will also maintain open communication with students, families, and administrators to support student achievement and growth.

As part of a growing network of academies within the district, the Health Science Academy offers students direct access to healthcare career pathways through strong community partnerships, immersive learning experiences, and interdisciplinary collaboration. In this role, you will provide dynamic, hands-on instruction aligned with industry standards and post-secondary expectations—equipping students with the academic foundation and technical expertise needed to succeed in healthcare professions or advanced training programs.

Requirements

  • CTE Certification in Health Sciences (or the agility to obtain certification, including participation in an approved Washington State Plan 2 CTE teacher training program).
  • Relevant professional experience in the healthcare industry (such as clinical, diagnostics, biotechnology, public health, sports medicine, etc.).
  • Experience and/or passion for teaching in high school settings.
  • Ability to connect curriculum to current healthcare practices and local workforce needs.
  • Experience teaching courses such as Medical Terminology, Systems Medicine, Biotechnology, Health, or similar preferred.
  • Background in creating interdisciplinary lessons that blend health, science, and business preferred.
  • Familiarity with state standards and industry certifications (such as NCHSE, HOSA, FACSE, and OSHA) preferred.
  • Willingness to actively support Shelton School District's Strategic Plan and initiatives.
  • Willingness to use District issued unit plans, lesson plans, and approved curriculum.
  • Ability to develop and maintain structures and routines that are conducive to an effective, safe, and welcoming environment.
  • Ability to assess students progress and modify instruction as needed.
  • Ability to scaffold instruction for a diverse student population.
  • Ability to maintain and effectively use a District issued classroom library.

Essential Functions

  • Deliver rigorous instruction using district-approved curricula across Health Science courses.
  • Provide students with authentic, real-world learning opportunities including lab work, guest speakers, job shadows, and field experiences.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, counselors, families, and healthcare industry partners to ensure career-connected learning.
  • Organize, attend, and maintain a CTE Health Science Advisory Committee consisting of industry professionals.
  • Creates and delivers lesson plans in alignment with District approved curriculum following the scope and sequence of their grade level team.
  • Develops and maintains positive, professional relationships with students, other staff, families, and administrators.
  • Advises families of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher’s expectations, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
  • Assesses students for the purpose of providing feedback to students, families, and administration regarding students’ progress, expectations, goals, etc.
  • Collaborates with other teachers to review data, implement interventions, align their scope and sequence, and improve their instructional practices with a focus on student growth.
  • Collaborates with school personnel, families, and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions, and delivering District approved curriculum.
  • Directs para educators, volunteers, and/or student aides for the purpose of providing an effective school program and addressing the needs of individual students.
  • Monitors student activities for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Prepares teaching materials and reports (e.g., grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing documentation of teacher and student progress.
  • Reports incidents as appropriate for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment, and adhering to education code, district, and/or school policies.
  • Participates in various meetings (e.g., family conferences, in-service training, site meetings, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information and/or meeting credential requirements.
  • Attends meetings and professional development trainings as appropriate or directed.
  • Maintains confidentiality and tact in all aspects of employment.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and views students with an asset-based approach.
  • Supports the District’s Strategic Plan and Shelton High School's School Improvement Plan.
  • Abides by all District Policies and Procedures as well as all applicable statutes and guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
