Summary:
The Multiple Tiered Support System (MTSS) Service Specialist will be responsible for providing support to students, teachers, and administrators at Eaton Rapids Middle School. This is a full-time position located on-site at the school.

RATE OF PAY: Starting Salary - $36,934 (Non Union Coordinator Pay – 176 days)
Job Description:
Using best practices, provide various support services to at-risk students to promote the development of social competencies and academic improvement toward success.
Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required
● Familiarity with at-risk/intervention programs
● Trained in Multiple Tiered Support System strategies
● Degree in Social Work or Counseling
● Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
Requirements:
● Must be organized
● Must be self-directed and resourceful
● Must be flexible and able to prioritize multiple tasks and changing circumstances
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills
● Must have a demonstrated ability to effectively interact with students from culturally diverse, multi-ethnic and varied socio-economic backgrounds
● Computer skills for communication and documentation of student concerns and progress
● Serve as a highly visible role model, consistently demonstrating behaviors of respect, good manners, positive attitudes and professionalism
● Respects and protects interests of confidentiality; exercises sound judgment on sensitive issues
● Ability to prioritize student needs and to work with individual students and groups of students to assist in problem-solving skills, anger management skills, friendship skills, making appropriate choices, using replacement skills and using appropriate language/communication skills
Academic, organizational and behavioral support services:
● Assist in the identification of at-risk students, using official state criteria (31a), forms and documentation
● Assess and update documentation as student qualifiers change throughout the school year
● Maintain a caseload of at-risk students, providing academic, organizational and behavioral support services
● Develop and implement individual strategies to promote successful academic outcomes
● Provide tutoring services to individuals and/or small groups of at-risk students
● Ability to facilitate Responsible Thinking Process Classroom
● Encourage peer learning through small group activities
● Teach and utilize conflict resolution techniques to help at-risk students resolve differences
● Provide specific support and/or learning strategies to individuals or small groups of at-risk students
● Develop and implement a daily “check-in,” and/or “check-out” program to promote student organizational skills
● Prepare and submit relevant information regarding student performance, behaviors, and progress to child study/intervention meetings, as requested
● Implement at-risk before and/or after school program to provide additional opportunities for academic support
● Help to identify student problem behaviors, and the conditions that prompt and/or contribute to them. Problem-solve simple solutions to those situations
● Develop and implement simple behavior plans, as needed
● Using best practices, implement positive behavior supports to address common behavioral concerns such as anger management, impulse control and defiance.
● Implement proactive strategies that encourage positive student habits and behaviors
● Provide explicit instruction regarding behavioral expectations and reinforce those behaviors with rewards and praise
● Provide explicit information and support to those students lacking in the ability to accurately read social cues
● Help at-risk students respect and understand the personal space needs of others
● Recognize School Wide Positive Behavior Supports (SWPBS) as integral to the development of a positive school culture---an environment conducive to positive academic and behavior outcomes for at-risk students
● Maintain daily record of services provided to at-risk students
● Record and collect data regarding student academic and behavioral progress. Use data to guide decisions and modify strategies and approaches used as well as to evaluate the progress of students
● Create and promote opportunities for at-risk students to develop positive relationships with staff and peers
● Assist students in making educational choices based upon individual needs, ex. To enroll in a virtual program of education in order to experience more academic success
