Position:  Special Education Teacher- Resource Room

Location:  Oakridge Upper Elementary

Qualifications:          

A Michigan teaching certificate with a preference for a Special Education endorsement in Autism Spectrum Disorder (SV) preferred. Special Education endorsements in Learning Disabilities (SM), Cognitive Impairments (SA) or Emotional Impairments (SE) are all acceptable. Recent teaching experience at or near level and subject being applied for is desirable.

 

Responsibilities:                         

  • Must follow district and state curricula and assessment requirements, with an emphasis on differentiation for students with developmental disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, ancillary staff, administration, parents and any necessary community agencies to support student needs.
  • Ability to work effectively with grade level/department/interdisciplinary teams, etc.
  • Ability to supervise and effectively collaborate with paraprofessionals.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to integrating assistive technology and augmentative communication systems (e.g., PECS, AAC devices) into instruction for non-verbal or minimally verbal students.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement evidence-based strategies and structured teaching approaches (e.g., TEACCH, visual schedules, social stories).
  • Demonstrate ability to develop an interdisciplinary approach to delivering instructional outcomes, particularly for students requiring intensive individualized support.
  • Maintain required time lines when completing, submitting, and disseminating paperwork:  IEPs, Medicaid billing, behavior intervention plans, transition plans, progress reports, etc.
  • Schedule IEP meetings and ensure IEP implementation for caseload students.
  • Input/active participation in building and district committee structure to develop new curricular guidelines for all areas.
  • Active participation in school and district teams working on autism programming, inclusive practices, and behavior support systems.
  •  Knowledge of Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS)
  •  Collaborate with team members to complete functional behavior assessments and implement positive behavior support plans.
  •  Follow and implement all Board of Education policies, administrative guidelines and building regulations.
  •  Willing to perform other duties as necessary and/or directed by the principal and/or special education administrator.
