Posting Information: We are currently hiring for a Library Media Specialist for Evergreen Elementary for the 2025-2026 school year. Open until filled. For best consideration, qualified applicants should apply by April 9, 2025.

Schedule: 1.0 FTE
Location: Evergreen Elementary
Salary: $64,664 - $119,032 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
FLSA Status: Exempt
Benefits: 12 sick leave days of which 6 can be used for personal leave each school year; 5 days bereavement leave per school year; health insurance benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) including medical, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance for employee and eligible dependents. Retirement through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS); other fringe benefits as allowed under the Shelton Education Association (SEA) Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Overview
The Librarian/Media Specialist supports Shelton School District’s Strategic Plan and Evergreen Elementary's School Improvement Plan by fostering an enriching Library environment. This role is dedicated to providing students with a wide variety of materials and encouraging intellectual growth, while also equipping them with the skills necessary to fully utilize Library resources. The Librarian/Media Specialist will create a dynamic space where students can engage with broad range of resources, enhancing their learning experiences and supporting their academic success.
Requirements
- Washington State Teaching Certificate with the appropriate endorsement(s).
- Ability to pass a Federal Criminal Background check.

Essential Functions
- Operates and supervises the Evergreen Elementary library.
- Develops and deliver lesson plans for K-4 students as part of the students' specialist schedule.
- Instructs and supports students in finding books that meets their interests and are appropriate for their age and reading level.
- Promotes, supports, and encourages literacy for all students.
- Instructs students on how to effectively use technology to access resources.
- Assists teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials and makes library materials available to supplement instructional programs.
- Maintains a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all library materials and instructs teachers and students on the use of the system.
- Works with teachers in planning assignments likely to lead to the extended use of library resources.
- Promotes and teaches appropriate conduct of students using library facilities.
- Helps students develop habits of independent reference work and develop skills in the use of reference materials in relation to planned assignments.
- Presents and discusses materials with a class studying a particular topic, on the invitation of the teacher.
- Participates in curriculum meetings.
- Provides guidance and support to students related to reading and literacy.
- Arranges frequently changing book-related displays and exhibits likely to interest students.
- Prepares and administers the library budget.
- Supervises library aides in the performance of their duties.
- Track and remove obsolete and worn materials from the collections.
- Performs clerical routines necessary for the smooth operation of the Library.
- Reports incidents as appropriate for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment, and adhering to education code, district, and/or school policies.
- Participates in various meetings (e.g., family conferences, in-service training, site meetings, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information and/or meeting credential requirements.
- Attends meetings and professional development trainings as appropriate or directed.
- Maintains confidentiality and tact in all aspects of employment.
- Maintains a positive attitude and views students with an asset-based approach.
- Supports the District’s strategic plan and the School Improvement Plan.
- Abides by all District Policies and Procedures as well as all applicable statutes and guidelines.
