SFUSD seeks an outgoing, enthusiastic, personable, and team partner for a full-time position to

provide Tier 3 intervention strategies and support to students at the Shoestrings Children’s

Center. The Speech and Language Pathologist will work with a cross-disciplinary team including

Shoestrings team members, early educators, an instructional coach, PBIS coaches, and Family

Support Specialists to build out an authentic holistic experience for young learners and their

families.

The Shoestring Children’s Center, Multi-Tiered Early Intervention and Supports Program is an

intensive screening /intervention behavioral diagnostic program that provides 10 weeks of

intensive assessment and direct clinical services to children. The younger the child (exhibiting

behaviors that interfere with the ability to access instruction/curriculum, participate in routines,

build positive parent-child interactions, daily life skills, etc.), the more we will need to work with

the environment he or she is in (e.g. home, school).

Successful candidates are outgoing, results-oriented, organized, and comfortable speaking with

a variety of people. They must also passionately believe in the values of SFUSD and can

enthusiastically share that vision and belief with others. This position will report to the program

administrator of the Shoestrings Children’s Center and work closely with the pre-kindergarten,

transitional kindergarten, and kindergarten teaching teams. This position will report to the

Director of the Shoestrings Children’s Center.

Responsibilities

● Identifies behavior concerns resulting from language needs and impairments

● Develop an assessment protocol and intervention implementation for identified students

● Provide consultation regarding the program to teachers

● Assist instructional staff and clinicians with identifying and addressing issues to positively

impact the student

● Develops and implements effective communication strategies

● Develops and identifies research-based interventions that support students whose

language capacity impacts their ability to engage with the environment, teachers/adults,

and peers in an age-appropriate developmental manner.

● Provide direct speech and language social and emotional supports

● Collaborated with multiple trans-disciplinary teams, CCEIS Liaison, EED PBIS team,

EED Instructional Coaches, EED Family Support Specialists, Coordinated Care Teams,

and families in the development of treatment services

● Completed individual treatment care plans, concurrent reviews, and other clinical

documentation to maintain clinical records in compliance with regulatory requirements

● Conducts student-centered case consultation and provides crisis intervention as needed

● Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and clinical case conferences

● Maintains a high degree of student confidentiality

● Maintains a high degree of professionalism in the clinical school setting

● Meets with the Shoestrings Director Liaison regularly to discuss cases and concerns

● Perform other duties as requested

Required Qualifications

● Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology and CA PPS credential in Speech-Language Pathology Services

● Certified in Child CPR and First Aid

● Current CA SLP license/credential or eligibility

● Experience in completing clinical documentation in compliance with

regulatory requirements

● Experience with direct clinical or other mental health services

● Experience providing direct speech pragmatic services to children and

adolescents

● Knowledge of appropriate psychosocial and classroom strategies and implementation

techniques for students with behavioral and social challenges

● Knowledge of mental health diagnosis, completing initial diagnostic/ behavioral health

assessments, crisis intervention, and developing client-specific treatment plans

● Experience working with students to foster the development of improved coping,

problem-solving, and communication skills, along with any goals as directly related

to the child’s individualized learning plan

● Knowledgeable & Skillful in developing individualized treatment plans. Effective professional

verbal and written skills for communicating client progress and treatment needs to clients,

families, professionals, and employees of the agency

● Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

activities. Able to effectively present information to educators, families, and community-based

organizations. Maintains professional therapeutic relationships with staff, students, families,

and community partners.

Preferred Qualifications

● Knowledge of Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or related field.

● Minimum of (3) years of experience in the field of Human Services

working with families

● Ability to present complex information on behaviors, behavioral assessment, and

implementation of behavior plans

● Familiarity with San Francisco and the San Francisco public school system

● Excellent verbal communication skills and/or presentation skills, both one-on-one or in

front of a group

● Experienced in providing direct clinical services to children and adolescents with mental

health needs. This experience may include supervised internships, practicums, and field

experience in social work, psychology, sociology, and counseling.
