The Mathematics Content Specialist (TSA) supports the implementation of the SFUSD Core Curriculum in Mathematics in all SFUSD schools, and supports K-12 classrooms and High School Math Departments to provide high quality mathematics instruction for all students in SFUSD.

Essential Duties

The duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to the job code/class and are not intended to be an inclusive or exhaustive list.

As the Mathematics Content Specialist (TSA), you will:

Collaborate across the school district, within the Educational Services and between other Central Office Divisions, to support mathematics teachers, teacher leaders, and Department Chairs with the goal of the implementation of the Core Math Curriculum and to ensuring high quality K-12 mathematics instruction across the school district for each and every student;
Develop tools and resources that support the implementation of the SFUSD Core Math Curriculum and quality mathematics instruction and assessment for learning in all schools;
Collaborate with the Content Specialists within the C&I STEM team for mathematics support;
Promote, organize, and support professional interaction among teachers, including facilitating professional learning communities and maintaining communication systems with mathematics teachers;
Model effective instructional practices and staying abreast of current research in mathematics education pedagogy;
Provide teacher guidance and direction on culturally responsive pedagogy in mathematics, and supports for the multilingual and diverse learners in mathematics classrooms, and develop resources to this end;
Support and facilitate professional development and coaching support to new and veteran K-12 mathematics teachers and coaching networks;
Act as co-planner, co-presenter, co-teacher and/or co-assessor, with colleagues;
Observe and subsequently provide comprehensible feedback and constructive critique of instructional practice;
Support and maintain centralized systems for mathematics materials ordering by schools, replenishment of curricular materials, and supporting schools with materials needs as they arise;
Performing related duties as assigned.

The strongest candidates will have:

A strong record of collaborating with colleagues to plan and coordinate a set of professional development experiences that led to implementation of mathematics curriculum and a collaborative culture within a school;
Verifiable experience providing mathematics instruction with effective pedagogies that led to equitable outcomes for all learners, and/or evidence of leading teachers to implement these pedagogies with results;
Capacity to design and implement professional learning experiences among teachers of mathematics to employ a range of resources: lessons analysis, tasks, videos, student work, data, peer observation, and current research in mathematics education;
Deep knowledge and experience with practices and strategies that improve mathematics instruction for diverse learners;
A drive to improve mathematics instruction in San Francisco for each and every student;
The ability to communicate effectively and in a timely manner across multiple levels of a complex organization;
The capacity to innovate to solve problems and to learn quickly and adapt as needed in fast-paced environments
Outstanding organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
A flexible, “can do” work ethic with a focus on identifying challenges and proactively working to find solutions while maintaining a bigger picture lens and focus on what can be delivered instead of what cannot be done
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with district staff and colleagues
Effective written and verbal communication and the ability to clearly communicate with a variety of audiences and across a variety of modes
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and GSuite (Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms)

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

Possession of a valid Teaching Credential in Mathematics or a Multiple Subjects credential with willingness to obtain Math certification and English Learner certificate (CLAD or BCLAD);
Five years of professional teaching experience with demonstrated effectiveness in Mathematics instruction;
Experience in teaching mathematics in high schools;
Experience as a mentor teacher, content specialist, or math instructional coach;
Experience facilitating groups and conducting professional development in mathematics;
Strong content knowledge of mathematics and mathematics standards and ability to apply it to teaching and learning;
Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
