Experience and skill in teaching Social-Emotional Learning
Professional record of enriching students’ skills through highly engaging and effective instruction and intervention
Training and experience with academic and personal counseling
Experience collaborating with school and community partners to coordinate services for youth

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

A full-time Social-Emotional Learning Intervention Teacher is part of teaching team that works directly with students to develop their social-emotional, academic, and career skills through fulfillment of the essential duties below:

SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL INSTRUCTION

Develop and implement group and individual instruction to build the social emotional skills of students.
Support students to practice social emotional skills in classroom, school, and outside settings
Consult with teachers and staff to develop optimal classroom learning environments for students; work in collaboration to develop behavior plans and support classroom management
Develop, implement, and continuously refine individual learning plans. Assist students to identify social emotional goals, track progress toward goals, and overcome barriers to achieving goals.
Uses tools and techniques to appraise and assess the abilities, achievements, personal development and interests of students. Collaborates with administrators and teachers to handle behavior issues by developing and implementing behavior support plans for students; incorporates guidance lessons that address repetitive behavioral issues: respecting authority, anger management and bullying.
Works with teachers, the Guidance Team and parents in effectuating remediation plans for students with attendance, behavior and learning problems.

GUIDANCE & TRANSITION

Support students to develop and implement Individual Learning Plans.
Review, evaluate, and maintain students' academic records and support student to complete ILP.
Advise students in making course, assignment, and graduation plan choices in accordance with law and policy based on long range plans of study and identified career interests.
Articulate with sending and receiving middle, and high schools, as well as post-secondary personnel to assist students in making a smooth transition between each.
Guides students in developing present and future educational and career plans through teaching and/or supervision of career development activities. Coordinates opportunities and identifies students to participate in visits to internships, vocational institutions and the like.

WRAP AROUND SUPPORT

Work in collaboration with school community to provide mental health assessment and intervention services from a strengths-based perspective
Provide a mental health perspective to (a) enhance school climate and (b) build, sustain, and integrate service-delivery systems in collaboration with the school community of students, staff, families, and service providers.
Consult with teachers, administrators, staff, and parents regarding social and emotional needs of students
Liaise with community-based services to facilitate access to services designed to optimize the functioning of students and/or families
Provide short-term, goal-oriented individual mental health interventions when social-emotional needs impact academic learning or ability to participate in school day; facilitate connection to more extensive services if determined necessary.
Provide direct individual crisis response interventions (i.e. suicide assessment, Child Crisis consultation, Child Protective Services reporting, etc.).

COLLABORATION

Operate as an equal member of a classroom-based teaching team with shared responsibility for the planning and implementation of a complete educational program.
Actively participate as a member of the classroom and school team, including learning and utilizing co-teaching practices, participating in all required meetings and activities, and collaborating to complete shared professional responsibilities.
Build and maintain positive relationships externally between the school, families and other community members and internally among students and staff.
Perform additional duties as needed

The length of the work year for all teachers is 184 days of service, except department heads and deans/head counselors have 189 days of service. Principal expectations vary by school site.
