The Supervisor for Mathematics manages SFUSD’s implementation of the SFUSD Core Mathematics Curriculum across K-12, the deepening of the CCSS in mathematics, and the curriculum, instruction, professional development and support, and policy associated with SFUSD’s mathematics commitment to all students. This role is responsible for disrupting the inequitable trends to access and achievement in mathematics education and for implementing the district’s commitment to guarantee creative, rigorous, and relevant CCSS mathematics instruction to all students, across all district schools.

The position is designed to provide a diverse array of services and activities guided by the SFUSD Mission and Goals

that: (1) direct the implementation of a districtwide K-12 mathematics curriculum, (2) support

teachers and leaders to determine how mathematics can be implemented in a manner that reinforces SFUSD’s

commitment to equity, and (3) orchestrate a range of professional learning activities for teachers of mathematics.

Essential Duties

The duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to the job code/class and are not intended to be an inclusive or exhaustive list.

As the Supervisor for Mathematics, within the Division of Curriculum & Instruction and under supervision of the

Director for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), you will:

Provide leadership for implementation and continuous improvement of the district’s math programs and services to support the goals of access, equity, and excellence for all students, in support of the VVGGs
Develop, implement, and continuously improve a coherent K-12 mathematics curriculum
Work with site and central leaders to implement the SFUSD Mathematics Core Curriculum to increase the quantity and quality of mathematics education experienced by SFUSD students, and to develop a shared vision for effective teaching of mathematics
Coordinate with mathematics teachers across all elementary, middle, and high schools to ensure alignment of rigorous, standards-based, sequential math learning in support of the district’s VVGGs
Direct and support professional development for mathematics educators
Recruit, hire, develop, support, and supervise a team of mathematics content specialists (teachers on special assignment) to deliver services and support mathematics in all schools
Collect and analyze data to track student participation and achievement in mathematics
Coordinate and help define the work of outside partners to ensure that all work aligns with the district vision and its goals for coherence
Support mathematics instruction so that success cannot be predicted by race, gender, socio-economic status, and other demographic factors
Perform related duties as assigned

The strongest candidates will have:

Experience with credentialed teacher supervision and evaluation
Strong content knowledge of mathematics and the ability to apply it to teaching and learning across grades K-12
Strong pedagogical knowledge of effective teaching practices in mathematics education
Solid understanding of the expectations of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics
Experience in educational issues as they relate to K-12 mathematics education
Experience with planning, organizing, and directing K-12 mathematics education programs
Experience with developing and implementing curriculum for mathematics education
Knowledge of and successful experience with the design and implementation of professional development for administrators and teachers
Knowledge of how to evaluate departmental programs
Ability to use student, school, and community data to assess professional learning needs
Comfort with fiscal and budgetary administration and management of contracts and grants
Ability to interpret, analyze, apply, and direct research to curriculum and instruction
Ability to manage relationships with external partners
Knowledge of national and state-wide initiatives in K-12 mathematics education
Ability to address access and equity issues with a variety of individuals and groups
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and GSuite (Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms)
Bilingualism / biliteracy

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a valid California Administrative Services Credential
One (1) year of experience as a public school, district, or county office administrator, or equivalent experience
