Position: TRANSPORTATION SUPERVISOR Work Period: 260 Days

Supervises: Bus Drivers, Mechanics

General Description: To provide a safe, economical and efficient transportation program which includes supervision of employees, routing of buses, and positive relationship with staff, students and community members.

Essential Functions:

Develop and administer a transportation program to meet the needs of the school district.
Work with the Director of Business to prepare the annual bus routes and schedules for all public and non-public students in our district.
Recruit, train and supervise all transportation personnel, and make recommendations on their employment, transfer, promotion and release.
Submit written evaluations on transportation employees in accordance with Board Policy and negotiated contracts.
Prepare and distribute a transportation hand book of rules and regulations to all employees of the transportation department.
Authorize day to day in accordance with budgetary limitation and Board Policy.
Participate in solving problems on the school bus in cooperation with building principals.
Maintain accurate records and complete State and Local reports for the transportation program including maintenance, vehicles, accident reports and all T reports.
Develop and maintain a preventative maintenance program for all school district vehicles.
Prepare all buses for State Highway Patrol inspection.
Conform to all state laws and regulations regarding school transportation.
Prepare and administer the transportation budget.
Develop recommendations for future transportation needs, future equipment and personnel needs for the superintendent.
Assist with the scheduling of special needs students.
Supervise and maintain a current inventory of supplies and materials related to transportation matters within the district.
Assist in the promotion of good safety practices and procedures.
Schedule and coordinate all extracurricular vehicle requests for athletics, field trips, and special classes on a regular or emergency basis.
Maintain good public relations with the community and staff.
Submit all reports required by District and State Authorities.
Schedule random drug and alcohol screening for the drivers.
Set up annual physicals for the drivers.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Perform mechanical duties on district vehicles as needed.
Maintain all bus turnarounds and driveways as needed.
Exercise tact and good judgement to maintain good employee relationships.
Act as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible human beings.
Perform any other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Superintendent or Designee.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma required, some college preferred.
Experience in public/pupil transportation.
Supervisory experience preferred.
Mechanical skills.
Hold and maintain a valid CDL with passenger, school bus endorsement and current certificate from the state.
Possess knowledge of Ohio regulations regarding student transportation, bus safety and maintenance.
Computer skills.

Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluid and tissue.
Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions.
Occasional interaction among unruly children.
Frequent travel.
Occasional evening and weekend work.
Regular requirement to stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch, with hands and arms, stoop, kneel and crouch.
Occasional repetitive hand motion, e.g., use of hand tools.
Frequent requirement to work near moving mechanical parts, e.g., drill press, welder, lifts.
Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, etc.
Occasional exposure to loud noises, e.g., power tools.
