Elementary Media Secretary

(Edustaff Employee - Part-time 20 hours per week)

Job Summary: Assist in providing a well-organized, smooth functioning media center environment in which teachers and students can take full advantage of available resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintain media center inventory and electronic database
Perform check in and check out functions of all media center materials and equipment as well as processing overdue notices
Process shipments and invoices as appropriate
Answer phone and route incoming calls appropriately
Assist with opening and closing the media center including turning on all equipment, running reports, etc.
Set up displays, bulletin boards, etc.
Supervise parent volunteer(s) working in the media center
Reshelf books, periodicals, etc., keeping all areas neat and orderly
Perform shelf reading on a regular basis
Perform minor book repairs; prepare books for rebinding
Maintain confidentiality and loyalty to employer
Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the building media specialist or principal.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Regular and consistent attendance.
Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the Portage Public Schools Employee Handbook.

Qualifications:

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Additional related media training desirable but not required.
Knowledge of library media programs
Computer keyboarding skills, secretarial and clerical skills
Ability to operate office machines such as computer, copier, and fax machine
Ability to assume responsibility, display initiative, and exercise good judgment
Proficient computer and document skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
