Paraprofessional - Intervention

Job Summary: To engage at-risk students improving their deficiencies, thereby giving them the opportunity to develop the organizational skills necessary for success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist Directed Learning Room supervisor identify student deficiencies.
Assist teachers, counselors and principals identify students whom are failing courses.
Implement intervention strategies to assist students to succeed in their academics.
Provide supplemental instruction and assist students with organization skills.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Regular and consistent attendance.
Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the Portage Public Schools Employee Handbook.
Monitor student grades via PIV to document increased organizational skills and academic achievement.
Provide written documentation to Assistant Principals and Principals regarding student participation, student achievement, staff referrals and any student behavioral concerns.
Implement remedial programs academic areas with individual or small groups of students.
Assist in the assessment of student progress.
Communicate frequently with teachers.
Assist in behavior management efforts.
May perform some minimal clerical functions.

Qualifications:

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
The equivalent of 2 years of college (60 semester credits) or an Associate’s degree or higher OR the successful completion of the MDE approved Paraprofessional standards test (ETS).
Experience working with children.
Demonstrated abilities in the area of interpersonal communication.
A high degree of patience, ability and willingness to learn new skills and take direction.
