RATE OF PAY: Per Master Agreement Schedule “C” Guideline

SUMMARY: The main responsibility is to instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the student shall receive instruction that will lead to the formulation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence while analyzing their performance, instructing in relevant skills, and providing encouragement. Practice is usually after school.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Michigan Teachers Certificate preferred
  • Previous successful coaching experience
  • Knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of Basketball

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrates integrity, honesty, responsibility, and loyalty in the performance of all tasks
  • Ability to take responsibility for his or her team assignments
  • Ability to use clear, concise language to provide timely and accurate written and oral communication

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Plans and communicates with coaching staff regarding practice schedule and competition strategies which ensure the health, physical well-being, and success of student athletes
  • Manages the distribution and collection of uniforms and sport specific inventory
  • Ensures that all student athletes are in compliance with District requirements including athletic physicals, student code of conduct, athletic fees paid, academic eligibility and all other standards included in the district athletic handbook
  • Models/instills values of sportsmanship, citizenship, and teamwork
  • Properly supervises student athletes during all related activities and events
  • Maintains individual and team statistics and records
  • Plans and implements a seasonal awards recognition program
  • Engages in sport specific professional development education
  • To perform assigned tasks with a high standard of quality
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and stand. Occasionally the employee will sit and or run. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee will frequently squat, stoop, kneel, reach above the head, reach forward, and repeat the same hand motion many times while performing the duties of the job.
The specific vision requirements of the job include good depth perception and occasionally being able to see objects/persons at a distance. While performing the duties of the job the employee frequently is required to hear conversation and a quiet as well as a noisy environment and be able to tell where a sound is coming from. The employee must be able to communicate to the team in order to give directions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will continuously work inside or outside depending on the sporting event. Occasionally the employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with the public and other workers. The employee has direct responsibility for the safety, well-being, and work output of others. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate.
