Supervisor:   Principal / Assistant Principal/Director of Student Services & Special Education
Salary:   Per Teacher's Collective Bargaining Agreement, Contract Extension and Benefits
Work Year:  Beginning on or about December 1, 2024, through the conclusion of the 2024-2025 school year

This assignment is working with grade 3-5 self-contained special education students.
 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • ISBE PEL with LBSI endorsement, required.
  • Previous experience working with intermediate self-contained special education students.
  • An interest and/or experience working with students with varying levels/types of disabilities.
  • Expertise in conducting educational assessments and the development of individual educational programs.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with others to optimize student achievement.
  • A willingness to participate in staff development opportunities.
  • A strong commitment to professional excellence.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Guides the learning process toward achievement of district-approved curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media.
  • Strives to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Assesses the learning of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

ASSESSMENT

  • demonstrates knowledge of formal and informal assessment procedures
  • selects appropriate assessment instruments
  • conducts assessments appropriately
  • interprets assessment information accurately
  • demonstrates knowledge of the screening/referral/evaluation process
  • conducts ongoing assessment of instructional goals and objectives
  • demonstrates awareness, understanding and knowledge of the variety of physical, emotional and cognitive conditions which may contribute to a student's learning problems
  • reports assessment data in a clear and concise manner
  • provides classroom observations

DESIGNS INDIVIDUALIZED EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

  • develops individualized goals and objectives based on assessment results
  • provides long-range student planning
  • fully participates in the MDC/IEP process

COMMUNICATION/COLLABORATION

  • demonstrates collaborative problem-solving
  • communicates in an effective, constructive, and positive manner with staff, students, and parents
  • interacts positively and effectively with school personnel, including administrators, teachers, paraprofessionals, building staff, etc., as an effective team member
  • promotes positive public relations

PROVISION OF INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICES

  • facilitates mainstreaming/integrated education programming when needed
  • demonstrates an understanding of a variety of disabilities
  • provides instructional support within a regular classroom, if needed
  • selects, prepares and/or adapts materials to meet individual student needs
  • employs a variety of instructional techniques, methods and materials appropriate for meeting individual student needs
  • demonstrates effective individual, group, and classroom behavior management techniques

CASE MANAGEMENT

  • participates with the building Student Services Team
  • monitors implementation of student I.E.P.'s
  • responsible for gathering, monitoring, and completion of all pupil data surrounding staffings, case studies, and annual review
  • manages and coordinates required meetings/conferences
  • manages and coordinates required paperwork
  • trains, supervises and assists in the evaluation of paraprofessionals (when applicable)

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • demonstrates continual assessment of individual program effectiveness and responds professionally to feedback

    a)  membership in professional organization
    b)  supervision of student teacher
    c)  inservice/workshop/seminar
    d)  continued higher education                                   
  •   actively participates in the staff evaluation process
