Title: Temporary Human Resources Specialist

Assignment: Approximately August 4, 2025 – April 20, 2026; Under 30 Hours per Week

Location: Northfield Campus

Occupational Group: Part-Time; Temporary

Supervisor: Chief Human Resources Officer

Pay Range: $28.00 - $36.00/hour

Overview:

New Trier Township High School District 203 is seeking a Temporary Human Resources Specialist to provide coverage during a staff member’s Leave of Absence. This position will support the Chief Human Resources Officer in coordinating recruitment, onboarding, and other HR functions. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, personable, and able to handle sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism. The ideal candidate will also have prior experience in a human resources position. This temporary position may have the potential to transition into a permanent role; however, employment beyond the temporary assignment is not guaranteed and will be determined based on department needs and applicant qualifications.

Key Responsibilities:

The temporary HR Specialist will assume many of the core responsibilities of the permanent role, including but not limited to:

Coordinating recruitment and hiring processes for all positions
Coordinating onboarding and orientation for support staff and physical plant services new hires
Managing job postings, applicant tracking, and interview coordination with hiring teams
Maintaining accurate and confidential personnel files and HR documentation
Supporting HR communications and data reporting
Track and manage employee compliance training and certifications
Collaborating with internal departments and external partners as needed
Respond to internal and external HR-related inquiries professionally
Assist with new employee orientations, including preparing materials and orientation sessions
Support the hiring process for interns, student teachers, and external partners
Coordinate and document probationary evaluations and performance assessments
Support compliance with district policies and legal requirements
Collaborate with internal departments and external organizations (colleges, agencies)
Assist with special HR projects, district events, and job fairs
Help with HR communications and district-wide updates
Ensure confidentiality and security of sensitive HR information

Note: The scope of responsibilities may be adjusted based on the candidate’s experience and the department’s needs during the leave period.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Human Resources or related field
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and web-based systems
Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain confidentiality
Prior HR or recruiting experience preferred

Note: Training/Transition Period may include overlap with current HR Specialist prior to leave.
