Title: Mathematics Instructional Assistant

Assignment: School year; 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM, 37.5 hours per week

Location: Winnetka Campus

Starting Rate: $21.71/hour

Position Outcomes:

To provide one-on-one or small group academic assistance to students outside the general education classroom in the Winnetka Academic Assistance Center (AAC). To assist teachers in helping students achieve the learning objectives of the course through the Multi-tiered System of Support (MTSS) process.

General Responsibilities:
This work involves close interaction with staff and students in the Winnetka AAC and the classroom, with the primary emphasis on delivering targeted academic interventions to students in need of additional supports. This individual works under the direction of certified staff and administration. The candidate is expected to exercise independent judgment, discretion, and confidentiality and react appropriately in crisis situations, as well as exhibit initiative, creativity and organizational skills.

Qualifications:

Strong mathematical skills in Algebra 1&2, Geometry, and Precalculus.
Possession of or ability to obtain an Illinois State Board of Education Educator License with Stipulations - Paraprofessional or other ISBE license that requires a college degree.
Strong communication skills and collaboration skills.
Highly organized, responsible, and reliable

Knowledge/Abilities/Skills:

Knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) process and interventions.
Knowledge of and experience with high school students’ educational needs.
Ability to move about frequently in the classroom and in various other parts of the school.
Some knowledge of computers and software applications, particularly Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Google Forms, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Canvas.
Exemplary interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and distinctly with staff, students, and outside agencies.
Ability to take initiative.
Ability to demonstrate patience, flexibility, and judgment in interacting with a wide range of students.
Ability to work with students one-on-one for individualized support.
Ability to oversee student tutors and help direct their work.

Position Expectations:

Assists students in the Winnetka AAC, and/or classroom, under the direction of certified staff by:
1. providing individualized or group instruction in mathematics and study skills; supporting students in credit recovery classes;
2. assisting with the administration of assessments, including diagnostic computer-assisted exams;
3. delivering targeted math interventions, and measuring and monitoring students’ progress;
4. communicating student progress to classroom teachers;
5. completing progress reports for the MTSS team;
6. supporting and training student peer tutors;
7. providing academic support to drop-in students in the AAC;
8. working collaboratively with the AAC Coordinator to support referred students;
9. assisting in the planning and implementation of targeted interventions and student tutor activities.
