JOB TITLE: Assistant Director – Early Childhood Services

REPORTS TO: Executive Director, Early Childhood Services

SUPERVISES: Select Head Start Staff

TERMS:
This position is a 225 total paid days position offering full family medical, dental, and vision benefits. Dental, vision, and life insurance are paid by the district at no cost to the employee. Personal business days, holidays and sick time paid. Retirement through the Office of Retirement Services (Pension Plus or Defined Contribution). Board paid annuity of $1750.00 per year.

SALARY RANGE:
This position is on the Early Childhood Center Scale that is grant funded, $84927.7125-$ 111833.7075 per year.

GENERAL JOB FUNCTION:
The Assistant Director of Early Childhood Services is responsible for providing leadership to the Early Childhood Department in the areas of curriculum planning, assessment, and implementation, grant management and oversight, staff supervision, and program operations. The overall goal is to develop a high-quality preschool experience leading to child outcomes producing Kindergarten-ready children.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Possession of a Master’s degree in Education, Early Childhood, Non-Profit Organizational Management, or related field.
Five years experience working with community’s educational and/or non-profit human service communities with a focus on young families and children.
Grant writing training and experience.
No physical or mental restrictions that would, with reasonable accommodation, prevent performance of the essential job functions and responsibilities.
Successful completion of a pre-employment physical exam including tuberculosis screening.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Successful experience in an administrative role, including management of grants, budgets, and personnel.
Prior management/leadership of Head Start and/or Great Start Readiness programs or aspects thereof.
Strong leadership and communication skills.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Assists the Executive Director of Early Childhood Services in the following overall program responsibilities pertaining to the operation of the departmental programming:
Planning and implementation activities in order to support a high quality birth to five system through the county which produces child outcomes supporting successful Kindergarten entry.
Production of a variety of program reports for governing body members and grant officials.
Assistance in developing the annual and five-year Head Start/Early Head Start and GSRP grant applications with associated planning requirements.
Directly oversees the effective implementation of a preschool curriculum including but not limited to long-range planning, ongoing data analysis, and leading the program’s educational specialists/coaches. Make recommendations to the Executive Director regarding ongoing program improvement in the areas of child learning. Identification of early learning program priorities for quality improvement, both short and long term.
Oversees the development of the program’s Training and Technical Assistance Plan, including the program’s professional development activities.
Provides direct supervision and evaluation of select staff members in accordance with Board policy and federal/state regulations.
Liaison with Center Coordinators to support and assist them in the implementation of a high-quality early childhood program in good compliance with all federal and state regulations.
Limited financial-related duties in terms of grant fiscal management, expenditure approval, timecard responsibilities, and/or other assigned fiscal duties.
Works collaboratively with partner districts and community organizations in delivering high quality early childhood services/programs throughout the service area.
Acquires and maintains a thorough knowledge of all laws, rules, regulations, and policies pertinent to the operation of early childhood programs and services. Interprets pertinent information for the Board of Education, administration, staff, and the delegate districts, as well as for the Head Start Policy Council.
Upholds the Head Start Code of Conduct.
Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as Executive Director may assign.

NOTABLE PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Sitting 7-8 hours per day. Driving up to 3 hours per week. Occasional standing, squatting, twisting and bending. Occasionally required to lift up to 30 pounds.

TYPICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Most work is performed both at the MAISD Administration Building and at delegate district sites.

EVALUATION:

Employees in this classification are evaluated prior to the completion of probationary status and according to Board policy thereafter.

TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS:

Travel is expected to delegate sites both in Muskegon and Oceana counties. Some travel may be required elsewhere within and outside of the state.
