PRIMARY PURPOSE: Assist in the attainment of District goals by enhancing the effectiveness of the staff member to whom assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education/Certification: High school graduate and possesses other requirements that will qualify applicant for Texas Education Agency certification.

Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to interpret and follow instructions and work effectively with minimum supervision. Work effectively with others.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Instructional Support

Tutor students in the classroom who have fallen behind.
Participates in instructional activities with students and teacher.
Help teacher prepare classroom materials and displays.
Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.

Supervisory Support

Assist in monitoring playground, lunchroom, and recess activities.
Help in monitoring students on field trips.

Clerical and Classroom Management Support

Arrange pictures, models, and objects for displays.
Assist in distribution and collection of textbooks and supplies.
Arrange bulletin boards and displays and keep them up-to-date.
Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom environment.
Shelve and count instructional materials.
Set up and operate audio-visual equipment.
Provide assistance to students in specialized areas such as the media center, computer lab, etc.
Deliver reports and materials to the office.
Keep cumulative records up-to-date.
Duplicate class materials and make transparencies.
Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment and instructional materials.

Maintain confidentiality in all student matters.

Perform other duties as assigned by principal or supervisor.

IN SCHOOL SUSPENSION AIDE

Instructional Support

Follow and implement instructional lesson plans for students assigned to in-school suspension.
Follow and implement instructional activities for students assigned to after school detention.
Administer group reading tests for students who are new to the school.
Help prepare instructional materials.

Supervisory Support

Monitor students assigned to in-school suspension and after school detention.

Clerical and Classroom Management Support

Duplicate materials for counselors and administrators.
Distribute and collect grade level textbooks and maintain textbook inventory.
Prepare materials for classroom projects.
Assist counselor in preparing test materials for students and teachers.
Assist counselor with appropriate maintenance of student permanent record cards.
Make transparencies and color copies for all teachers, counselor, and administrators.
Monitors school copier use and maintenance status

SPECIAL EDUCATION AIDE

Student Management

Assist students with physical disabilities according to their needs, this may include transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning.
Assist students with physical needs and personal care including feeding, bathroom needs, changing diapers, and personal hygiene.
Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student's special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
Work with students assigned by the teacher.
Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.

EQUIPMENT USED

Word-processor, computers, copier machine, and other general office machines.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, to include standing for extended periods of time; stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; regular heavy lifting of students; indoor and outdoor duties as assigned; biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.

Supervises: Students as assigned.

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the School Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

175 days; salary schedule as recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the Board.
