The Role and Function of the Sound and Lighting Technician (On-Call Position)

The Sound and Lighting Technician (On-Call Position) is responsible for setting up, operating and troubleshooting sound and lighting equipment during events, ensuring high-quality audio and visual experiences for Faith Lutheran audiences. This position is ideal for individuals with a passion for audio-visual technology and live event production.

The Positional Responsibilities

Set up sound and lighting equipment for various events (e.g., concerts, theatrical productions, etc.).
Operate sound and lighting systems during live events, ensuring optimal performance.
Monitor audio levels, lighting effects, and technical equipment during events to ensure a smooth experience.
Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues with sound and lighting equipment in real-time.
Perform routine maintenance and tests on audio-visual equipment to ensure reliability and functionality.
Work closely with event coordinators, Directors, students, production team members, and other technicians to meet the specific needs of each event.
Follow technical specifications and event plans to ensure accurate execution of sound and light setups.
Dismantle and pack up sound and lighting equipment after events.
Ensure all equipment is returned to proper storage and is well-maintained.
Previous experience in sound and lighting technology, preferably in a live event setting.
Strong knowledge of audio and lighting equipment, including mixers, amplifiers, microphones, projectors, and lighting consoles.
Ability to troubleshoot and solve technical issues efficiently under pressure.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Flexibility and willingness to work on an on-call basis, including nights and weekends.
Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
The role may require standing, lifting, and setting up heavy equipment.
Events take place in an indoor venue on campus.
