JOB SUMMARY

A COTA provides occupational therapy services to students with disabilities ages 3-22 under the direction and supervision of a registered occupational therapist. These services include assisting with the intervention, progress monitoring and the documentation process. The COTA assists students in acquiring functional performance skills needed to participate in and benefit from the educational environment and help the student function independently.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ohio Occupational Therapy Assistant Board License
Ohio State Board of Education registration as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant
Prior experience in pediatrics preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of the Ohio Operating Standards for the Education of Children with Disabilities
Knowledge of FERPA and HIPPA
Knowledge of Ohio rules and regulations regarding occupational therapy as both a program and related service option
Knowledge of IDEA and the IEP process
Knowledge of effective intervention strategies
Knowledge of effective classroom management techniques
Ability to use technology as both a productivity tool and as a method of communication; proficient in computer applications (e.g. Microsoft Office, Google Docs)
Ability to maintain accurate student records
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, co-workers, administrators, and public
Ability to work with teachers and students to demonstrate ways of supporting students in the regular classroom
Ability to work with students in a variety of non-traditional treatment settings
Ability to work and communicate effectively with students who have various cognitive and physical limitations
Ability to work with team to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate program progress and implement changes
