JOB SUMMARY

Location - Toledo, Ohio Area

The Community School Special Education Specialist is responsible for providing quality services in accordance with local, state and federal mandates in the area of special education to all Community Schools sponsored by the ESCLEW. Maintaining a focus on special education, the Special Educational Specialist will 1) provide support to community school administrators, directors and boards of education to improve school operations specifically in the area of special education; 2) monitor the compliance with federal and state laws and mandates related to the special education program within the community schools; and 3) provide proactive and/or responsive technical assistance to the needs of sponsored community schools that reflect current best practices in special education.

The Special Education Specialist will collect submit and enter current and accurate data related to work responsibilities within the designated timeframes.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Special Education (Master’s degree preferred);
Ohio State Board of Education administrative licensure preferred;
Demonstrated knowledge of community school laws, regulations, policies and procedures and federal and state mandates for special education.
Minimum of five years’ experience in education required (supervisor experience preferred)

Knowledge of laws, regulations, policies and procedures that govern community schools (special education, compliance)
Knowledge of current special education issues and best practices
Strong organizational and analytical skills
Strong skills in data analysis including ability to read, analyze, and interpret data and reports related to educational accountability, achievement, and progress
Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate effectively in both small and large group settings
Strong interpersonal skills; ability to promote positive internal and external customer relations
Ability to use technology as both a productivity tool and as a method of communication
Ability to learn and use Microsoft and Google programs and features
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to model ethical principles and democratic ideals for students and the community
