The position of Transportation Coordinator will be available beginning immediately. PRIMARY PURPOSE: Coordinate district’s transportation and vehicle maintenance program. Oversee maintenance of all district-owned vehicles. Ensure safe and efficient operation of the transportation department.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Coordinate the delivery of transportation services for students and ensure that they are picked up and arrive safely and on time.
2. Prepare and update bus routes and schedules for all schools in the district and develop plan to meet future transportation needs.
3. Implement transportation for extracurricular activities and special programs.
4. Notify bus drivers, schools, and the public of any changes in bus routes and schedules.
5. Assign bus drivers to routes and extracurricular trips and find substitutes as needed.
6. Implement federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and board policy in transportation areas.
7. Comply with applicable personnel policies.
8. Enforce safety standards that conform with state, federal, and insurance regulations and develop a program of preventative safety.
9. Administer transportation budget and ensure that programs are cost-effective and that funds are managed wisely.
10. Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate all transportation personnel and make sound recommendations about placement, assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal.
11. Attend professional growth activities in-district and in the field to keep abreast of innovative techniques in transportation.
12. Develop training options and improvement plans to ensure exemplary operation of the transportation department.
13. Prepare, process, and maintain all documents required to verify safety certification and alcohol and drug testing for bus drivers.
14. Implement district’s student discipline policies and ensure that expectations about appropriate behavior when using district transportation are communicated to students and parents. Develop and deliver professional development to Transportation staff in the area of student behavior management.
15. Provide bus video to district stakeholders when necessary.
16. Respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed.
17. Gather information for investigations involving school bus accidents and student safety violations.
18. On-call during nights and weekends to assist disabled buses.
19. Implement the district’s disaster plan and be prepared to take an active role in responding to emergencies as needed.
20. Advise administration about inclement weather conditions that may result in the closing of schools or road hazards.
21. Develop an understanding of maintaining current inventory of supplies and parts and initiating purchases in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policies.
22. Coordinate the repair of all district-owned vehicles and preventive maintenance. Ensure that vehicle repair requests and work orders are prioritized and processed in a timely manner. Contract for outside services that cannot be performed in shop.
23. Recommend disposal of obsolete or worn-out vehicles and equipment. Recommend purchase of vehicles as necessary.
24. Monitor fuel deliveries and distribution.
25. Evaluate employee job performance to ensure effectiveness.
26. Attend and make presentations at conferences and school board meetings to discuss innovations and problems in transportation.
27. Provide data to compile, maintain, file, and present all reports, records, and other documents required in the transportation area.
28. Maintain safety standards in conformance with federal, state, and insurance regulations.
29. Prepare data necessary to process transportation payroll.
30. Prepare, review, and revise transportation department job descriptions.
31. Investigate reported concerns and take appropriate action to resolve issues.
32. Maintain strict confidentiality in all existing problems with drivers.
33. Maintain good rapport with parents and community.
34. Maintain an exemplary attendance record.
35. Drive a route bus as directed by the department Director.
36. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience using Transfinder routing software – preferred
3 years experience in transportation operations - preferred
Three years of supervisory experience in the public school district, preferably with experience in transportation operations.
Experience as a bus driver - preferred
