General Summary
In accordance with the established policies and procedures of the East Lansing Public School District, the Elementary School Behavior Interventionist supports students by implementing behavior management strategies and interventions to promote a positive and productive learning environment. Working closely with teachers, social workers, and administrators, the interventionist helps identify students' behavioral needs, develops and monitors behavior plans, and provides direct support through individual and group interventions. The interventionist will also serve as a behavior coach to teachers, other staff members and families.
About the Role
Works collaboratively with district staff and families to support elementary students who exhibit challenging behaviors that interfere with their learning. Supports teams with developing, implementing and evaluating support plans using the Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) model. Works with individual students and small groups to teach strategies and reinforce behavioral goals. Maintains timely and accurate records of behavior incidents. Coaches staff members on behavioral strategies and interventions for students. Maintains confidentiality of student and family information. Provides staff training on behavior-related topics. Displays effective communication skills with students, families and staff. Utilizes student data for programming purposes. Completes their duties as assigned by building principal.
Education, Knowledge and Skills Required
Valid Michigan Teacher’s Certificate or other relevant certification Minimum three years of work experience at the elementary level Demonstrated knowledge and skill in student behavior Experience with Functional Behavioral Assessment preferred
