Job Title: Special Education Resource Program Teacher  Reports to:

Building Administrator and Director of Special Education  Building: TBD Compensation: Teacher’s Salary Schedule   

Position Summary:  

The Special Education teacher serves students with IEPs who have a variety of abilities/disabilities. 

The primary role of the Special Education teacher is to provide both academic instruction and supportive instruction in both the general and special education setting. The Special Education teacher is responsible for establishing effective and professional rapport with students, parents, and staff; while developing skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to enhance individual students’ abilities.  

Required Education/ Qualifications: 

 • Bachelor’s Degree (minimum) from an accredited university 

• Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate 

• Full area of approval in at least one area of Special Education or enrolled in program seeking approval (CI/ASD/EI Preferred)  Other: 

• Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal  

•  Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with staff, students, and parents 

• Strong commitment to educating students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment, as demonstrated by experience with co-teaching or other collaborative delivery models 

• Demonstrate self-discipline and initiative 

• Skill in demonstrating Behavior Management Strategies, and implementation of Behavior Plans   Duties and Responsibilities:  

• Develop and implement IEPs for a caseload of students with varying disabilities.  

• Ability to integrate technology into lessons and curriculum 

• Provide instruction both in general and special education settings that is supportive of general education curriculum and individual IEP goals/objectives 

• Devise and utilize data sources that measure student progress toward IEP goals/objectives.  

• Monitor/ document student progress on IEP goals/objectives 

• Keep accurate logs of students' attendance, service logs, and behavioral write-ups
