ECORSE PUBLIC SCHOOLS is located in the metropolitan Detroit area.  Our staff provides the very best educational opportunities for approx. 1200-1500 students from the downriver area, Ecorse, Lincoln Park, Allen Park, Melvindale, Wyandotte, River Rouge, and the Metro Detroit area. The Ecorse Public Schools district is comprised of one elementary school (GSRP - K-3), one Middle School (4-8) one high school (9-12), and two credit recovery programs ages 16-19 years old. A new facility will be opening this Fall for our Early Childhood Program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan a program of activities that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students with disabilities
• Create an environment that is conducive to learning and is developmentally appropriate for preschoolers
• Schedule, attend, and conduct Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) and Individualized Educational Planning Team (IEPT) meetings within required timelines.
• Classroom instructional leader for meeting the needs of special education students
• Prepare and conduct parent orientation
• Establish and maintain an instructional setting that will be supportive of positive
behavior change and academic achievement for the students.
• Maintain attendance records, other data records, and progress reports.
• Adhere to all policies and procedures of Ecorse Public Schools.
• Attend and participate in scheduled meetings, training, and Professional Developments as requested
• Perform other job-related duties assigned by the Director of Special Services or Building Administrator.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
• Possess a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
• Special Education and Early Childhood Endorsement (ZS) required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 
•   Must be eligible to work in the United States
•   Must have good organizational skills
•   Must keep accurate documentation as required by the program
•   Good interpersonal skills with children, parents, and staff
•   Ability to operate computers and related software

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly to remain in a stationary position. The employee must frequently move about inside the classroom and occasionally throughout the building to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. The employee will communicate with others and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. The employee may need to travel to different work locations. The position requires the employee sometimes to work irregular or extended work hours and meet multiple demands from several people.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:  The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is frequently required to interact with students, staff, and occasionally with the public.  At times, the employee may be directly responsible for the safety and well-being of students.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Compensation, length of the workday, and the number of workdays is based on the W-WEA collective bargaining agreement.
