Contract Length: school year, 184 days
Compensation and Benefit Package: As per C.O.O.R. ISD’s master agreement salary schedule Summary of Position: Under the direction of the Director of Special Education, and in accordance with the established policies and procedures of C.O.O.R. Intermediate School District, the School Social Worker is responsible for providing school social work services for special education eligible students in regular and special education programs. The school social worker will focus on student evaluation, provision of direct and indirect services, and collaborative consultation with staff, parents, agency personnel and administrators.
Qualifications and Requirements:
1. Master’s Degree in Social Work.
2. Full Special Education Approval as a school social worker by the Michigan Department of Special Education – Office of Special Education
3. Fully Licensed as School Social Worker in the State of Michigan
4. One year of experience in school social work practice in a school setting which can include master’s level social work internship.
5. Knowledge of the requirements of state and federal mandates which directly affect school social work services and special education.
6. Experience working with Pre-K to 12th grade students
7. Provide to support to the Early On program in assigned districts.
8. Knowledge and theoretical content in treatment modes for school social work practice.
9. Ability to work and effectively communicate with administrators, staff, agencies, medical providers, students and their families in the delivery of special education services.
10. Is flexible, prompt and able to prioritize a work schedule.
11. Excellent oral and written communication skills (use of computer and applicable software)
12. Present self and appearance in a professional manner.
13. Must have dependable transportation and a valid Michigan driver’s license.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
1. Provide direct and indirect social work services to students with Individual Education Plans.
2. Follow all established Special Education laws, policies, practices and procedures in terms of duties and responsibilities of the position.
3. Complete necessary and appropriate evaluations and reports to support recommendations to IEP Teams relative to eligibility for Special Education for students suspected of having an emotional impairment.
4. Maintain appropriate and orderly student files to complete accurate student progress reports and to determine continued eligibility of school social work support.
5. Establish meaningful relationships with students in order to support service delivery.
6. Prepare IEPs that include Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance and appropriate goals and objectives for each student on the caseload.
7. Facilitate functional behavior assessments.
8. Model and coach to support the implementation of positive behavior support plans.
9. Participate in IEP team meetings, MET meetings and other meetings as required and requested by the school district or ISD.
10. Work with the General Education teachers and Special Education teachers in providing social emotional support for students.
11. Meet all due dates with required paperwork of the position that include but not limited to REEDs, IEPs, IFSPs, Medicaid, evaluation reports, etc.
12. Shall maintain all required licensing and professional development for the position.
13. Other duties assigned by the Director of Special Education.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $39,695.39 - $78,009.15 per year
