FLOATING PARAPROFESSIONAL/FOOD SERVICE DIRECTOR

Summary of Positions:

The position for the Floating Paraprofessional is a part-time, school year position (.75 FTE).

Under the direction of the Building Principal and Director of Special Education, paraprofessionals work in classrooms to ensure a safe and orderly running of student daily routines. They assist with student activities, assistive devices, safety, and behavioral programming. They provide the teacher with support, as needed, by providing small group and one-on-one instruction, supervision of students during free time and lunch, as well as assisting students in personal care routines, such as bathroom usage. They also assist the teacher in the development of materials, ensuring safety routines are followed and protection of students during emergencies. This position is considered at risk for exposure to Hepatitis B and may come in contact with hazardous chemicals. A floating paraprofessional will report to classrooms based upon need and will not be assigned to a specific room.

The position for the Food Service Director is a part-time, school year position (.25 FTE).

Under the direction of the Director of Special Education, the Food Service Director ensures the smooth and efficient operation of the school cafeteria and is responsible for working with the contracted service to ensure the production of nutritious, appetizing meals for students while meeting all governmental and district regulations. This position is also responsible for timely submission of all paperwork required by the state.

Qualifications:

● Minimum of a high school diploma. Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree preferred.

● Knowledge of basic school and district policies affecting students and staff personnel

● Advanced knowledge of Microsoft, Google Suite and have the ability to work in a variety of databases and software programs related to education

● Knowledge of basic office equipment (computer, copier, fax, printer, telephone, etc.) ● Clerical accuracy and a high level of secretarial skills are required

● Be able to lift 50 lbs.

● Driver’s license

● Tact and diplomacy are essential

● Be able to organize work and self-start

● Must meet all Federal requirements for Highly Qualified Paraprofessional as required by No Child Left Behind.

● Experience working with physically aggressive students.

● Successfully pass a Criminal Background Check for work in an educational setting.

Paraprofessional Essential Job Functions:

● Follow all established policies, practices, and procedures in terms of duties and responsibilities of the position as delegated by the building principal.

● Carry out planned activities of the therapist/teacher and reinforce goals and objectives.

● Works independently with individuals and/or groups of students, records, and reports on services provided to the student in an organized manner.

● Demonstrate good attendance, punctuality, motivation, good time management skills, flexibility, and a positive work attitude.

● Accepts supervision and constructive criticism.

● Interacts and communicates responsibly with students, parents, staff, and other administrators.

● Performs other tasks as assigned by the teacher/supervisor, such as lunch duty, playground supervision, the maintenance of health, safety and cleanliness of students, assisting students to and from the bathroom, catheterizing a student at the bathroom when necessary, classroom and related work, recreational activities, etc.

● Maintain a cooperative, harmonious relationship with colleagues within the school setting that fosters recognition and respect for every individual.

● Perform such tasks as the building principal/classroom teacher may request in order to promote cooperative teamwork.

● Follow school building rules and procedures outlined by the building principal.

● Employees will follow all health and safety rules, policies, and procedures.

● Perform duties according to COOR safety and health policies.

● Keep the work area in a neat and organized manner, and surrounding areas clean and orderly to maintain health and safety according to COOR policies.

● Physically capable of performing CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute, Inc.) techniques. CPI certification must be maintained, and methods used consistently.

● Knowledge of common safety hazards and necessary safety precautions for oneself and others, sufficient to be able to establish a safe work environment. Ability to use the principles of safety and to perform skills protecting the health and safety of self, students, and other co-workers.

● This position is considered “at-risk” for exposure to blood-borne pathogens. An awareness of potential risk and good practice in relation to “infection control” is necessary.

● Demonstrate knowledge of the Michigan Right-to-Know law and its practices.

● Will participate in training sessions as requested by the administration.

● Assists in the evaluation of student progress when requested.

● Demonstrates good language skills.

● Demonstrates initiative for self-improvement.

Food Service Director Essential Job Functions:

● Supervises and participates in the preparation and service of snacks and meals.

● Provides training to staff in the areas of food preparation and sanitation.

● Ensures food handling and serving is performed by individuals who have completed an approved food safety training.

● Responsible for weekly, monthly, and quarterly ordering and inventorying of all food and supplies as needed to ensure District resources are maximized.

● Kitchen inventory (food, supplies, and equipment) to be completed once each year and sent to the Director of Special Education and building principal.

● Responsible for receipt and dating of food shipments to enable a first in-first out use of food.

● Maintains daily production records.

● Maintains high standards of cleanliness and safety in the kitchen, food storage areas, and cafeteria and oversees the cleaning and sanitizing on a daily basis.

● Ensure proper storage of all food in accordance with USDA requirements on a daily basis and before school breaks (summer, Christmas, and spring break).

● Ensures that all equipment in the cafeteria area is in safe, working condition.

● Ensures the kitchen and food storage area is cleaned and inspected one week before the start of school.

● Supervises staff in the safe and proper use of kitchen equipment.

● Communicates Food Service program needs to the Director of Special Education on as needed basis in regard to supplies and equipment.

● Researches and obtains grant funding for the food service program as needed.

● Prepare kitchen and cafeteria area as needed for cleaning services and/or events.

● Attends training, approved by the Director of Special Education, when needed.

● Assists in and provides the School Wellness Committee information regarding food safety, health and nutrition for children.

● Analyzes food service program financial data and helps to ensure the fiscal stability of the food service program.

● Works with the County Health Department each year when inspections are conducted.

WAGES & BENEFITS:

Per the Master Agreement between the C.O.O.R. Intermediate School District and C.O.O.R. ISD Educational Support Personnel Association (CESPA) and the Michigan Education Association (MEA).

Per Master Agreement between the COOR Intermediate School District and COOR Educational Support Personnel Association - Michigan Education Association

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $14.03 per hour
