School Social Worker:

The School Social Worker is responsible to the Director of Special Services for promoting the child’s social and emotional growth through increased understanding between the school and home. This service shall deal intensively with the family, make an extensive effort to know and utilize community resources and carefully compile social history materials in order to connect home, community and school together. The School Social Worker shall be a member of the District Child Study Team and in that capacity perform such functions as indicated by federal and state regulations and as ascertained by the Board of Education.

Qualifications:

Possession of New Jersey Educational Services certificate with School Social Worker endorsement.
Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative.
Have experience working with children and adolescents.
Have experience in conducting Social Evaluations.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, community social service resources, and current social work issues.
Demonstrate an understanding of current rules and regulations regarding Child Study Teams and special education assessment and program requirements.
Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and the interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community.

Requirements:

Serves as a member of the Child Study Team.
Prepares social case history reports as part of the Child Study Team.
Obtains pertinent information about a student’s home and social situation as well as information about a student’s growth and development.
Acts as a liaison between the Child Study Team, community service agencies, and private practitioners.
Engages in group or individual student counseling within the school setting when appropriate.
Attends Child Study Team meetings and participates in the development and preparation of IEPs.
Serves as a consultant to the General Education program when appropriate.
Serves as a Case Manager for Special Education students as assigned by the Director of the Child Study Team.
Serves on building level committees as assigned by the Director of the Child Study Team.
Evaluates student progress with counselors, teachers, and parents/guardians.
Performs such other duties as assigned by the Director of the Child Study Team.

This is a 10-month contracted position with additional summer days available for evaluations and case management.
