Summary
Chatham High School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our coaching staff as a Fencing Assistant Coach for the 25-26 Winter season. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the sport of fencing and a commitment to developing athletes both in skill and character. This position requires a collaborative spirit, strong communication skills, and the ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes. The Fencing Assistant Coach will work closely with the head coach to enhance the overall fencing program and ensure a positive and productive environment for all participants.
Responsibilities
- Assist the head coach in planning and implementing daily practice sessions, including warm-ups, drills, and conditioning exercises.
- Provide individual and group instruction to athletes, focusing on skill development, technique improvement, and tactical strategies.
- Help organize and supervise team activities, including competitions, travel logistics, and fundraising events.
- Foster a positive team culture by promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect among athletes.
- Monitor athlete progress and provide feedback to the head coach regarding performance and areas for improvement.
- Assist in maintaining equipment and ensuring a safe training environment.
- Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school administration regarding schedules, expectations, and team policies.
- Attend all team meetings, practices, and competitions as required.
Requirements
- Foil Specialty Preferred
- NJ Teaching Credential OR NJ Substitute Credential
- Previous experience in fencing as a competitor or coach, preferably at the high school or collegiate level.
- Strong knowledge of fencing techniques, rules, and strategies.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with student-athletes and foster a supportive environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the head coach and other staff members.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification is preferred.
- Availability to commit to the full fencing season, including practices, competitions, and team events.
- A passion for mentoring young athletes and promoting their personal and athletic development.
