Salary: Pay for this position is determined by the 169-day Teacher Salary Schedule and is based on education and experience. Starting salary range $43,945- $73,523 and a highly effective stipend of $3,000 for professional licensed staff.

Purpose: To create a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students with special needs. By developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs), you play a crucial role in ensuring that every student receives the tailored support necessary for their academic, social, and emotional growth. QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS:

  • Must have a bachelor's Degree; a Master’s Degree in Special Education preferred.
  • Current Colorado Teacher License, Special Education Generalist K-21, or be eligible to apply.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a school atmosphere with staff members, students, and the public.
  • Ability to effectively read, write, speak, and listen to comply with directions and instructions to complete tasks and establish priorities.
  • Integrity, trust and work ethic to work with little supervision.
  • Competent understanding of technology to perform the job.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical
  • Ability to perform light lifting and moving of product (up to 50lbs)
  • Implements appropriate physical and technical safeguards to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of district data
  • Maintain good security practices with passwords and accounts for the various district systems and applications.
  • Reports actual or suspected breaches in the confidentiality, integrity, or availability of district data to appropriate district personnel.
  • Follow all board policies for acceptable use of district technology.
  • Model the District's Mission and Belief Statements. 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Skills, Knowledge, Equipment, & Other: 

  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development.
  • Knowledge of subject areas, curriculum, and standards-based education.
  • Knowledge of special education as applied to the needs of the students assigned to the teacher’s particular areas.
  • Experience in small group instruction, pull-out, and inclusive delivery models.
  • Knowledge of the general organization and functions of a public school system.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and resolve conflict with students, parents, and community groups.
  • Effective organization and communication skills.
  • Must be MANDT trained (training provided).
  • Able to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with regular education staff and specialists.
  • Familiarity with writing and implementing individual education plans.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teachers are held to high expectations for their performance to ensure the success of the individual and the District in serving students and the community.  Teachers are held to the District’s Licensed Personnel Performance Evaluation System that consists of the State’s Quality Standards, elements, and performance indicators which point to fulfillment of the teaching responsibility.  A teacher’s demonstrated effectiveness is based on the following standards:

Quality Standard I: Teachers demonstrate mastery of and pedagogical expertise in the content they teach.
Quality Standard II:  Teachers establish a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment for a diverse population of students.
Quality Standard III:  Teachers plan and deliver effective instruction and create an environment that facilitates learning for their students.
Quality Standard IV: Teachers demonstrate professionalism through ethical conduct, reflection, and leadership.

Equipment: Computer hardware and software, technology related to the assignment; typical office machines such as copiers, faxes, and phones; and typical classroom equipment, including technology tools such as digital projectors, calculators, interactive displays, etc.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, feel, or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds from floor to waist, waist to overhead, waist to floor, and overhead to floor. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work in a school setting. Travel from site to site may occasionally be exposed to wet and/or humid outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment ranges from generally quiet to increased when working events or with equipment occasionally. Classroom and 1:1 settings and possible outside supervisory duties in inclement weather. Must be able to work in person.

Mental Functions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to analyze and compute. Frequently required to compare, communicate, coordinate, instruct, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, and compile. Occasionally required to copy, synthesize, and negotiate.
