Head Athletic Trainer

Position Type: Work Schedule varies, to include afternoons, evenings and may include some Saturdays during athletic events.
Location: Canon City High School
Salary: Pay is $35.00 per hour
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certified in accordance with the standards set forth by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC).
POSITION DUTIES INCLUDE:
- The head athletic trainer will be responsible for creating and assigning a schedule for all trainers to cover the training room and appropriate sporting events.
- On a daily basis, the trainer will be responsible for taping, treating of injuries, and rehabilitation.
- The trainer will treat any athlete that is participating in recognized school athletic programs.
- The trainer will be responsible to assist in the care of opponents while competing at Canon City High School if the opposing team does not have a trainer or physician present.
- The trainer will instruct the coaching staff and establish emergency protocol to be followed in the event of an athletic emergency.
- Determines if a player is capable of continued participation in a game and/or practice if the player is injured.
- Responsible for the treatment and supervision of treatment for all minor athletic injuries and conditions.
- The Head Trainer will refer athletic injuries to physicians for diagnosis and/or treatment.
- Whenever possible, the trainer will secure parental permission before referring an athlete to a physician.
- Carry out appropriate instructions and treatments as directed by the athlete’s physician.
- Carry out rehabilitation programs for athletes under the direction of the physician.
- Assists and advises the coaching staff regarding injury prevention, conditional programs, and the selection, care, and fitting of protective equipment.
- Responsible for monitoring the care and cleanliness of the training room with assistance from the custodial staff.
- Responsible for reporting all injuries to the athletic director’s office on the proper forms
- The athletic trainer will not be permitted to coach or assist in coaching any sports while serving as trainer.
