THEATRE & DRAMA TEACHER (Gr. PK-4)

STEP/SALARY: BA-6TH YEAR/$50,825.00 - $102,758.00

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and provide an atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for artistic and intellectual growth.
  • Integrate the arts into the classroom and content areas via dance, music, theatre and/or visual arts in order to support and sustain arts for all students in the PK through 8th grade levels and build sustainability for the pathway to secondary arts programs.  
  • Establishes and (as necessary) adjusts instructional goals and objectives, to reflect district/school goals, curriculum policies, and the knowledge, skills, progress, and needs of one’s students.
  • Designs lessons that provide opportunities for problem solving, creativity, and communication skills in relation to authentic, real-world problems.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of behavior that foster student self-discipline and positive relationships among students.
  • Commits to on-going professional development in content and cross-curricula pedagogy.
  • Facilitates related performing arts productions and performances
  • Plans learning activities to address individual differences among students
  • Develops, administers, and evaluates quality formatives and summative assessments that reflect a balance of content knowledge, creativity, and problem-solving skills
  • Monitor and evaluate students’ progress in relation to district/school curriculum and policies and other planned goals and objectives
  • Encourages, secures, and maintains the involvement of parents and other community members in support of theatre education
  • Involves parents in the assessment of their children’s progress and needs
  • Performs all other duties assigned.

 
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Required certification: Theatre and Drama, Grades Pre-K through 12 (485) and Music, PK-12 (049)
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Three years of successful teaching experience in an urban school district preferred
  • Experience in the use of educational technology
  • Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
