JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Maintenance: General Laborer (Hired through EduStaff)
SUPERVISOR: Director of Facilities
LOCATION: Buildings throughout the District
JOB SUMMARY: A candidate in this role will be responsible for the maintenance of all properties owned by the School District in an efficient and economical manner
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Three (3) or more years of successful human resources management experience, preferably in a school system.
- Possesses a working knowledge of building maintenance, Plumbing, mechanical functions, carpentry, roofing, electricity, refrigeration
- Knowledge of HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical Systems
- Ability to develop, analyze, and recommend policies, strategies, and practices affecting school district personnel and serves
- Strong communication skills.
- Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities
- Physical ability to perform assigned job duties
- Proven ability to meet the challenges of an urban-rural, multi-ethnic school district
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate degree or higher in facilities management
- School maintenance experience
JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs the following services, in a safe, efficient manner, under the direction and or oversight of a Maintenance Supervisor:
- carpentry
- plumbing
- pipe fitting
- refrigeration
- glass and glazing
- roof repairs
- hardware
- wiring, electrical, motors, and switches
- other services as assigned by the proper authorities.
- Able to determine what is needed to complete assigned tasks and skillfully and efficiently use time and resources to execute those tasks.
- Is available for any work assignment as deemed necessary to resolve maintenance and/or operational problems within the District.
- Possesses knowledge of safe work habits and practices.
- Reports to the proper authority any unsafe or dangerous conditions existing on school properties or within the buildings and any irregular use of buildings and grounds.
- Presents a record of work accomplished daily.
- Reports in and out to the proper person (building secretary or administrator) when work is to be performed within that building or on the grounds.
- Continually attempts to increase his/her skills and is knowledgeable about updated equipment and methods by attending school, seminars, etc.
- Participates in emergency work crews whenever needed.
- Obtains work order information via the Help Desk application.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager, Maintenance Supervisor, and Custodial Supervisor.
- Perform other tasks, duties, or services consistent with this position as assigned by the Superintendent or designee

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary based on education and experience pursuant to the Benton Harbor Area School Board policies and collective bargaining agreement for any position that falls under collective bargaining.
EVALUATION:
The performance of this job will be evaluated by the Director of Facilities.
