Position Purpose

The Community Education Recreation Intern is a position responsible for completing projects and administrative duties as assigned and working within a number of community education programs. Under the general supervision of the Director of Community Education & Communications and the Community Education Coordinator, the Community Education Recreation Intern will gain hands-on experience developing, planning, organizing, and coordinating recreational programs, activities, and events as assigned both alone and/or with other members of the community education team.

Essential Functions

Assist in planning and implementing programs and special events, including assisting with developing program budgets and fees.
Identify, implement, and carry out marketing and promotional strategies for programs and events.
Lead recreational programs and staff to ensure participants have a positive experience.
Ability to learn and use recreation software and equipment effectively and assist staff or participants with use.
Provide exceptional customer service.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Equipment

Uses standard office equipment such as personal computer, copy machine, and telephone in addition to general recreation equipment, including balls, bats, nets, field equipment, etc.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

Ability to lift, carry, or move up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work outdoors during seasonal weather.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience working with youth or experience working in a recreational setting.
Possession of a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

Currently pursuing a degree in Parks & Recreation, Recreation & Sports Management, or related field.
Currently required to complete an internship or work experience to complete a recreation related degree.

Additional Internship Information

Internship Length: 12-14 Weeks -- Summer 2025
Recommended Start Date: Mid-Late May 2024
Hours: 10-15 Hours/Week
Schedule: Varies, dependent on program schedules and projects assigned.
Typical Program Hours: Hours are typically Monday-Friday between 6:00 am-10:00 pm, with occasional weekend hours required

Salary and Benefits

Hourly Wage: $13.00-$16.00/hour, depending on qualifications and experience

This is a temporary, seasonal, non-benefit eligible position.
