Job Title: Learning Assistance Program (LAP) Teacher & School Assessment Coordinator K-8

Division: Instruction

Classification: Certificated

Reports to: Building Principal


SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT

The Learning Assistance Program (LAP) Teacher supports student achievement in grades K-4 by developing, implementing, and monitoring literacy-based interventions. This position collaborates with staff, families, and administration to ensure students receive appropriate academic and non-academic support to improve literacy outcomes. In addition, the LAP teacher will serve as the school's assessment coordinator for the state summative assessment (Smarter Balanced) in grades 3-8.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Student Needs Identification
    • Analyze student assessment data to determine LAP eligibility and identify specific literacy needs.
  • Program Development and Implementation
    • Design and implement research-based literacy interventions.
    • Collaborate with teachers to create individualized literacy support plans.
    • Create LAP schedule for interventions and Reading Power times.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation
    • Track student progress using formative and summative data.
    • Schedule, administer, monitor, and evaluate i-Ready and easyCBM benchmarking.
    • Adjust instruction and interventions to ensure literacy growth and student success.
    • Administer the Dyslexia Screening and analyze results.
    • Supervise AmeriCorps Members.
    • Train, evaluate, mentor, and monitor AmeriCorps members.
    • Complete member evaluations and service reports.
    • Write and submit the annual AmeriCorps grant.
    • Collaborate with administration to hire AmeriCorps members each year.
    • Approve timesheets and monitor hours needed by the member to successfully fulfill their contract.
    • Monitor progress of Reading Power.
  • Family and Staff Engagement
    • Communicate with families regarding literacy supports and student progress.
    • Inform parents if their K-2 students' dyslexia screening results.
  • Data Management, Compliance, Reporting
    • Complete K-4 annual Literacy Report
    • Maintain accurate records to ensure all literacy program components meet state LAP guidelines and reporting requirements
    • Complete year-end LAP Report
    • Collect, manage, and interpret data to inform literacy instruction and programming
    • Identify trends and areas for improvement
    • Lead professional development on literacy strategies and assessments
    • Maintain LAP attendance records
  • School Assessment Coordinator
    • Manage assessment databases for benchmark and summative assessments (i-Ready, easyCBM, WCAP, WCAS, TIDE)
    • Provide staff training for test administrators in grades 3-8
    • Update the building assessment plan and testing calendar.
    • Oversee administration of the annual Smarter Balanced state test.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrate ability to analyze and interpret student assessment data to identify specific needs to determine LAP Eligibility.
  • Knowledge of research-based literacy interventions and strategies and the ability to design and implement effective instructional programs.
  • Knowledge of K-5 literacy intervention curriculum.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with classroom teachers to create individualized literacy support plans and instructional programs.
  • Demonstrate experience administering and evaluating literacy screening tools, including i-Ready, easyCBM, and dyslexia screeners.
  • Ability to supervise, mentor, and evaluate AmeriCorps members, including managing service reports, evaluations, and timekeeping records.
  • Strong organizational skills and reporting skills with the ability to maintain accurate program records and complete required reports.
  • Capacity to collect, manage, and analyze data to inform instruction and identify trends for continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of LAP compliance standards and the ability to ensure all program components meet state and district requirements.
  • Exceptional understanding of foundational reading skills, literacy instruction, and interventions.
  • Manage instructional platforms and assessment databases.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree
  • Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with Reading Endorsement
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience in any primary grade level K-2


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five years of teaching experience working as a full-time employee in primary grades or three years of experience as a literacy interventionist
  • Familiar with the Washington State Smarter Balanced Assessment
  • Experience in teaching diverse student populations – specifically Native American
