New Market Skills Center and the Tumwater School District are accepting applications for a high school Special Education Learning Assistant for its 2024 summer session. We are interested in staff who are committed to students and to a continuing program of personal and professional growth.

It is the Mission of New Market Skills Center to provide a positive, industry supported and aligned learning environment where students are encouraged and expected to achieve their highest potential through rigorous career, technical and academic preparation programs.

QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent; ESSA certification required for all positions (Associates or higher degree, minimum of 72 college quarter credits, or ETS Test), excluding bus supervision duties only. Strong written and verbal English skills. WA State driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel between schools if required. Right response training required for all positions. First Aid/CPR Certification required for health room duties, may be required for those with Special Education, playground, and behavior support duties. Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance.

Professional Qualifications:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent and ESEA certification
2. Ability to communicate well both verbally and in written form
3. Honest and strong work ethic
4. First Aid/CPR Certification
5. Previous experience as a para educator

Typical Responsibilities:
1. Assist students when taking tests, assignments, and activities
2. Communicate with parents regarding student progress as needed
3. Assist New Market Instructors in implementing SAS
4. Keep data and files on students’ progress
5. Interact professionally with staff, students, and the community
6. Organize, manage, and appropriately maintain instructional facility, equipment, and resources
