Job Summary:

Under the supervision and support of the Jr/Sr High School Principal, the 7th Grade ELA Teacher will be responsible for delivering high-quality English Language Arts instruction to middle school students. The successful candidate will foster a supportive, engaging, and standards-based classroom environment, collaborate with colleagues, and contribute to a culture of academic excellence and innovation.

 

Qualifications Required:

A.     Minimum of BS/BA degree and an endorsement from an accredited college program in Secondary Education. 

B.     Possess or be eligible for a valid Michigan teaching certificate with a Language Arts (BX) (preferred) or English (BA).

C.     Highly Qualified under Michigan/NCLB standards

D.     Strong knowledge of ELA content, instruction, and assessment strategies for middle school learners

E.     Skilled in using formative and summative assessments to guide instruction

F.     Demonstrated professionalism, strong communication skills, and collaboration with staff, students, and families

G.    Effective classroom management and organizational skills

H.     Proficient with instructional technology

I.       Committed to continuous professional learning and use of research-based practices

 

Desired Characteristics:

A.     Experience in working with secondary school students. 

B.     Familiarity and/or experience with Professional Learning Communities

C.     Ability to foster a learning environment prioritizing collaboration, critical thinking, and communication. 

D.     Experience using technology as an instructional tool and for monitoring student progress 

E.     Knowledge in the use and application of G Suite and other Internet-based applications

F.     Demonstrated experience for fostering and engaging students with student-centered instructional pedagogies.

G.    Understanding, experience with, and/or willingness to adhere to Standards Based Grading (SBG) and transition to Personalized/Competency Based Learning (P/CBL).

H.     Experience with and/or an understanding of utilizing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to foster a positive classroom and campus for all students and colleagues. 

I.       Takes a leadership role within the staff to demonstrate effective pedagogical and curricular approaches applicable to colleagues across other departments and grade levels.

J.      Special consideration given to holders of certification(s) outside of the English Language Arts content areas
