Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Specialist – High School

GENERAL STATEMENT:

The Summer School 2026 high school program will offer an array of courses for students grades 9-12 referred by their high school counselors, teachers, and/or principals. The Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Specialist will collaborate with staff, students, and families to promote appropriate school behaviors and a positive school climate, develop social and emotional learning competencies, and help students meet with school success. The MTSS Specialist will coordinate and support intervention planning and data collection through the use of behavioral, attendance, restorative and other intervention practices. The MTSS Specialist must make a five-week commitment to teach in the Summer School Program, and will report to the Summer School Administrator or designee.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Confer with parents, teachers, and support staff to develop plans to promote and encourage positive student behavior.
Assist in the resolution of conflicts between students and students and staff, including facilitation of restorative circles as appropriate.
Communicate with parents and classroom teachers regarding student academic and behavioral progress.
Monitor daily attendance to promptly identify and address patterns of absenteeism or lateness during the summer program.
Support the general planning, implementation & progress monitoring of interventions.
Collect and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of summer school climate, attendance, and social-emotional supports, and share findings with the summer school leadership team.
Provide a supervised and structured environment for students participating in summer school behavioral or restorative supports, including academic support, restorative practices, and structured timeouts as needed.
Work with students and or other staff members during student reflection period on strategies for the communication of behavioral expectations, restorative behavior management and the prevention of undesirable behaviors.
Communicate appropriate school expectations to students and help students process their actions including the impact of their actions on their education.
Work with students, parents and teachers to create a culture of high expectations and excellence.
Model equitable and inclusive practices in all activities.
Participate in professional development activities.
Collaborate with departments and school staff to implement social-emotional learning (SEL) support aligned with the district’s strategic plan during summer school.
Support the planning and delivery of SEL experiences specific to the summer school program.
Participate in professional development activities.
Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.

Public school experience with students with social/emotional/behavioral needs.
Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff.
Excellent organizational and problem solving skills.
Knowledge of various models and best practices of working with disengaged/disconnected youth.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
A working knowledge of community resources.
Knowledge and understanding of MTSS programs.
Evidence of ability to work cooperatively with students, administrators, teachers, parents, and community groups.
Must possess knowledge of and the ability to effectively apply methods for dealing with student misconduct.
Must possess the ability to supervise and support students with varying abilities, monitor and deescalate student behavior, and mediate conflicts.
Working knowledge of and/or demonstrate the ability to learn and implement Operating Systems (i.e. Windows, Chrome); Productivity Software (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Google Workspace - Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail; Adobe Acrobat); Communication and Collaboration tools (i.e. Google Meet, Zoom, Microsoft Teams); Accounting Software (i.e. Oracle, QuickBooks); Student Information Systems (i.e. Naviance, Power School, CT-SEDS); or any other technology deemed relevant for this position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

CT CSDE Teaching Certification for the appropriate grade levels.
CT CSDE Intermediate Administration or Supervision Certification (092) (Preferred).
Currently serving as an MTSS Specialist at the secondary level within the district.
Experience in social work/psychology/counseling/behavior management preferred.
Experience and success with using research-based strategies and best practices.
Experience with restorative practices.
Experience developing, interpreting, and implementing evidence-based programs in the area of social emotional learning.
Bilingual preferred.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Stamford Board of Education may find appropriate.

Note: Teachers dually certified in TESOL, Bilingual Education or ESL, with experience in Sheltered Instruction or fluency in a language other than English, will be given preference for all Stamford Public School positions.

SCHEDULE:

5 Week Program: Monday, 06/29/26 through Thursday, 07/30/26 (Monday - Thursday, 20 days)
On-Site Work Hours: 7:45 A.M. - 12:45 P.M.

COMPENSATION:

Per SEA Contract.
