Ocosta School District is now accepting applications for a Special Education Instructor. The position is 1 FTE for the 2025/26 school year. The classroom instructor creates a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students. In order to respond to the individual needs and abilities of students, the classroom instructor must work closely with staff, administration, parents, and students. Knowledge/experience with new state assessment requirements and Washington State standards is necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university
Current Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement, including Special Education
Must pass the Washington State Patrol background and fingerprint check

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Plan and implement effective lessons, using time, materials, and resources effectively.
Assist in early recognition and prevention of educational problems.
Monitor student progress and make informed, timely educational decisions.
Create and implement appropriate IEPs.
Evaluate efficacy of program in meeting student objectives.
Assist in creating inclusion and transition plans and activities for students.
Evaluate students using appropriate special education evaluation tools.
Motivate students through effective communication and evaluative feedback.
Display a thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter.
Demonstrate awareness of the needs of students and provide for individual differences.
Set high expectations for student achievement and behavior.
Establish and maintain a positive climate for learning through appropriate classroom management.
Maintain current curriculum and instructional practices.
Maintain required reports and records.
Direct activities of non-certificated personnel, as needed.
React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
Coordinate and supervise field trips.
Observe district policies and procedures and ensure all activities conform to district guidelines.
Build supportive relationships with community members/organizations and district staff through effective communication skills.
Attend professional staff development.
