Ocosta School District is currently accepting applications for a K-12 Music Teacher for the 2025/26 school year. The position is 1FTE, 7.5/hrs per day, Monday-Friday. (With occasional concerts/performances in the evenings throughout the school year.) The classroom instructor creates a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university
- Valid Washington State Teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement.
- Successful completion of WSP/FBI fingerprint background check.
- Music/Band teaching experience preferred, but not required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Teach appropriate grade level music standards to grades K-12 including organizing yearly performances.
- Display a thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter.
- Adapts classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans (differentiating instruction).
- Administers subject specific assessments for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or using that data to plan for intervention.
- Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations to engage families in the instructional program; student achievements, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
- Develop positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members.
- Collaborates with the instructional staff, other school personnel, and parents for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives/outcomes in support of the school improvement plan.
- Coordinates a variety of activities (e.g. field trips, transportation, lesson plans, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment, materials, and personnel to achieve objectives/outcomes.
- Willing to coordinate and lead pep band and evening concerts/performances.
- Counsels students for the purpose of improving performance, health and well-being, problem solving techniques, and a variety of personal issues.
- Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements/achievement.
- Motivate students through effective communication and evaluative feedback.
- Instructs students for the purpose of improving their success in academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
- Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, hallway, field trips) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
- Promotes parent participation and involvement in educational activities.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and the community in both in written or verbal form.
- Participates in periodic data meetings with administration to discuss student achievement for the purpose of making sure the teacher has the resources and professional development needed. The teacher will be prepared to discuss data in detail and note all intervention in process or planned based on the data.
- Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
- Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to the Education Code and school policies.
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
- Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction.
- Observe district policies and procedures.
- Participates in annual training and in-service.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
