The Early College of Macomb (ECM) is accepting applications from educators who are interested in an environment that will provide a unique learning experience for Macomb County High School students in grades 11-13. This partnership program between the MISD and Macomb Community College provides students with an opportunity to earn college credit while attending high school. Candidates for the Student Service Coordinator/Early College Instructor position must be committed to the educational goals of the ECM program and have demonstrated capacity to support students and staff in achieving expectations for high school graduation and an associate degree from Macomb Community College. The ECM Student Service Coordinator/Early College Instructor demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical skills and the ability to work in a collaborative professional setting with students and colleagues.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Education
Valid Secondary State of Michigan Teaching Certificate
Master’s Degree in Counseling preferred
Demonstrated interest, ability, and experience working with high school students.
Demonstrated interest, ability, and experience working in a cooperative environment with community college staff and students preferred.
Willingness to undertake the professional responsibilities intrinsic to an Early College program environment.
Demonstrated ability to communicate with students, parents, and school staff.
Must pass criminal background check as required by School Safety Legislation.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Works a flexible schedule aligned with Macomb Community College and local district academic calendars and maintains an office on theMCCcampus.
Responsible for understanding and interpreting the requirements and academic options available to students.
Advise ECM students, individually and in groups, about the development of educational options and the resources available to ensure their academic and career success.
Meets with students several times each week in multiple seminar classes to teach ECM students the ECM curriculum; and monitors, facilitates and supports their transition into college life.
Is self-motivated, possesses strong interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as works in a professional manner, at all times, with fellow ECM staff, students, parents, visitors, college faculty, local school personnel and service people;
Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to many diverse situations that arise in the program;
Serves as a resource and support for instructors and advisors atMCCand local high schools;
Provides guidance to ECM students through the development of educational and career plans, in collaboration with high school and college counselors.
Consults and collaborates with parents/guardians, teachers, and staff about understanding and meeting the special needs of students and makes appropriate referrals.
Records and reports on the summative progress of individual students.
Uses technology efficiently and appropriately; and demonstrates knowledge and flexibility with various instructional methods and electronic platforms (i.e., Power School, Zoom, Schoology).
Keeps current with developments in his/her profession, new resources and early college success strategies.
Performs other related duties as assigned and/or required.

UNIQUE ASPECTS WHICH SHOULD BE CONSIDERED BEFORE APPLYING:

Calendar includes some summer dates in addition to traditional school year.
Varied hours.
Professional duties will include curriculum development and teaching seminar classes.
He/she has at least five years of experience working with adolescents in a school setting and has passed background and fingerprint checks.
