Summary
The Elementary Reading Interventionist instructs reading groups consisting of elementary students who are identified as strategic and intensive in the areas of reading and collaborates with classroom teachers.

Primary Job Duties

Provide scaffolding and interventions in reading awareness and comprehension strategies to an assigned caseload of students on a daily basis.
Communicate the progress and intervention strategies used with students to classroom teachers, the Instructional Coach, and principal.
Maintain data on reading levels for eligible students’ individual intervention plans.
Provide information to ensure the appropriate instructional level of reading materials for identified students only.
Provide reading instruction related to reading support for identified students.
Provide data, planning, implementation, and monitoring support for students' reading intervention plans.
Regular, dependable attendance is a critical performance factor to ensure consistent, high quality customer service and is required.
Participate in reading teacher professional development.
Perform other related as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Students, student aides and parent helpers.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication. Ability to work with staff, parents and children.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Possess a Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university
Valid Michigan teaching certificate
Certification in K-5 all subjects/K-8 Self-contained classroom
Lifelong learner with a collaborative spirit

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

Master’s Degree preferred
Experience working with students in a diverse, multicultural academic setting
Bilingual preferred but not required
