Lakeview School District is a comprehensive school of approximately 4,000 students in grades K-12, 500 faculty and support staff members and an annual General Fund Budget of $50 million. The district is comprised of six school buildings, four K-4 elementary schools, one 5-8 middle school, one high school and one alternative education building.

Summary: The part time Transportation Dispatcher dispatches bus drivers to ensure safe, timely transportation of District students to school and related school events. Assist in the development and maintenance of bus routes. Assist with emergencies and adjustments due to accidents, weather, mechanical breakdowns or school schedules. Assists parents, drivers and school administrators in the resolution of problem situations. Assists with training of new drivers and aides. Serves as a substitute driver when needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.

Serve in the capacity of the Transportation Director in his/her absence.
Assist the Director in managing daily operations and the daily dispatching of buses.
Assign substitutes to cover routes.
Assist with assigning field trips and special assignments.
Prepare invoices and records of trips as needed with field trips and events.
Assist the Director in designing and implementing bus routes and schedules to maintain the most efficient and effective transportation service.
Maintain necessary records to prepare yearly reports to the State and to the Board of Education.
Maintain drivers records and monitor for compliance.
Maintain accurate route records.
Answer phones and the two-way radio base station.
Drive bus routes in emergency situations, which may include working a split shift or substitute bus driver working different hours in times of staff shortages.
Available to be “on call” on weekends and emergencies in the Director’s absence.
Act as a representative of the District when greeting and dealing with parents, community members, vendors, students and employees.
Assist the Transportation Director by managing confidential issues and correspondence within areas of responsibilities.
Assist with the requisition of supplies, handle bookkeeping files, check status of orders on a routine basis and certify the receipt of materials and supplies.
Training or assisting with the training of new drivers and staff.
Work and assist MSP Officer during Annual MSP School Bus Inspections.
Assist with ordering mechanical supplies and parts as needed.
Regular, dependable attendance is a critical performance factor to ensure consistent, high quality services to children and families.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
In the absence of the Transportation Director, carryout supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience:

Minimum of high school diploma or GED is required.
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a valid CDL with a B, P, and S endorsement with MDOT medical certification.
Ability to hold and maintain a Continuing Education Bus Drivers card and Supervisors Card.
Demonstrated experience with managing confidential information is required.
Minimum of two years successful experience in general transportation operations is preferred.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite and Google Mail is preferred.

Ability to change bus light bulbs, seat covers, and miscellaneous routine repairs.

Wage
Position is 20 hrs. per week with the working hours of 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and paid at $23.00 per hour.

Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.

Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
