Primary Purpose:

Provide special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to match student ability levels. Create lesson plans, assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to help students improve their language skills. Prepare students for successful TELPAS testing. Work in self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant capacity as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

ESL Supplemental Certification or a Bilingual education certificate

Bachelor’s degree from accredited university

Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements for assignment

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Deep understanding of second language acquisition theories and ESL instructional strategies

Knowledge of special education law and compliance requirements, including IDEA, Title III, and ADA

Familiarity with ARD process, LPAC procedures, and IEP development

Knowledge in Understanding of TELPAS administration, scoring, and interpretation of results

Knowledge of differentiated instructional strategies to meet diverse learner needs

Awareness of cultural and linguistic diversity and its impact on instruction

Familiarity with behavior management strategies and positive behavior supports (PBIS)

Trained in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or willing to receive training upon hire

Ability to collect, analyze, and use data to guide instruction and monitor student progress

Experience:

Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience
