Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Gateway Academy Supervisor, the Student/Academic Success Coach is responsible for providing support to alternative education certified staff in assisting students in online credit recovery. The Student/Academic Success Coach will work directly with teachers, support staff, and families to ensure success for at risk students.

Qualifications:

Required:

Minimum of BS/BA degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field
Able to assess and document student academic progress
Valid Michigan driver’s license with a clean driving record to transport students in a school van
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form
Professional in personal conduct and actions

Desired Characteristics:

Experience in working with high school students
Experience using technology as a key instructional tool in the classroom
Experience in working within a Professional Learning Community
Experience fostering student-driven leadership
Successful experience working with at risk students
Experience in behavior planning, behavior intervention, and/or restorative justice practices

Duties:

Effectively work with at-risk students, their families, and school staff
Coordinate, plan, and supervise student community service projects in collaboration with local organizations, and service agencies
Build strong connections that support the individual student and their development
Implement strategic and specific support of accommodations for students in need
Provides individual assistance with work assignments
Maintain accurate records of student participation in community service projects
Ability to plan and organize
Assist students in food preparation
Ability to transport students, using non-personal vehicle
Willing to attend conferences and participate in professional development
Perform other duties as assigned by administration
