Note - Must be Right Response Trained. Knowledge of positive behavior supports and working with students with autism is preferred. Must have strong communication and collaboration.

Position Overview

This role plays a vital part in designing and delivering individualized, inclusive instruction for students with diverse learning needs, while partnering closely with staff, families, and the broader community.

Key Responsibilities

Meaningful Relationships

Build strong, respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and the community to support the whole child.
Serve as a student advocate, maintaining high expectations and a belief in the success of every learner.
Guide and support paraprofessionals through embedded training, collaboration, and leadership to best serve student needs.
Communicate effectively with families and stakeholders to ensure transparency and shared goals.

Engaged Learners

Deliver individualized instruction based on IEPs that incorporate students' strengths, needs, and interests.
Use evidence-based instructional strategies, particularly in reading and math, aligned with the science of reading and best practices in special education.
Foster a positive, inclusive classroom climate that promotes both academic and social-emotional development.
Implement proactive and positive behavior supports to ensure a safe, welcoming, and productive learning environment.

Adaptive Pathways

Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs aligned with high academic and behavioral expectations, adjusting instruction based on data and student growth.
Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and intervention teams to deliver services that adapt to the needs of each learner.
Lead and contribute to the ongoing improvement of intervention systems and support structures within the school.
Design differentiated instruction for a wide range of disabilities across special education and inclusive settings.

Community Connections

Engage actively with families and community partners to create wraparound support for students.
Participate in IEP meetings, school-based teams, and professional development opportunities that enhance inclusive practices and instructional effectiveness.
Support the development of community resources and inclusive opportunities that benefit students with disabilities.
Represent the school and district positively in all interactions, embodying the values of integrity, collaboration, and equity.

Qualifications

Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with a Special Education Endorsement (or eligible).
Deep understanding of IEP development, implementation, compliance, and the use of data to inform instruction.
Proven expertise in delivering reading instruction aligned with the science of reading.
Demonstrated success with research-based intervention programs and instructional strategies.
Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills to foster a culture of teamwork and high expectations.
Ability to support positive behavior development and classroom management across settings.
Organizational and time-management skills to maintain accurate records and meet deadlines.
Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR and Right Response Certification.
Valid Washington State Driver’s License and reliable transportation (mileage reimbursed).

Evaluation:

The SPED teacher will be evaluated consistent with state laws and within the guidelines of the collective bargaining agreement.

Salary:

180 Base Salary = $60,204.38 - $117,387.72

4 Professional Days = $1,337.88 - $2,602.96

Benefits: State allocation towards dental, vision, medical insurance, retirement, 12 sick leave days, 3 personal leave days.

Employment is contingent upon successful clearance of a Washington State Patrol, FBI fingerprint criminal history background check, and Sexual Misconduct background check.
