This position will remain open until filled. Tumwater School District reserves the right to make a hiring decision at any time after the initial screening after 4 PM on Tuesday, April 15th, 2025. It is in the applicant's best interest to submit materials as soon as possible.

The FRESH Summer Program Teacher is the primary teacher that uses farm-to-school activities and leadership development to teach content. This position is responsible for fostering a safe, positive learning environment. The Lead Educator is responsible for the stewardship of the Tumwater farm and must be supportive of sustainable agriculture, the program's values and youth empowerment.

QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Washington State Teaching CTE Certificate with proper endorsement(s) in assigned area(s), Criminal justice fingerprint clearance, Current First Aid/CPR certification, Current Food Handler's Permit.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Plan, implement, and evaluate effective classroom instruction consistent with building and district curriculum/programs
Participate in team planning, programming, and instructional activities focused on improving instructional practices and student learning
Recognize individual students' needs and provide appropriate strategies and interventions
Foster and maintain a safe, positive learning environment
Prepare teaching materials and reports (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing documentation of teacher and student progress
Communicate effectively with parents and the school community
Know and observe safety procedures; maintain safe working conditions; comply with safety rules and regulations
Protect the interest of the district regarding pilferage, loss, theft or abuse of all district vehicles, equipment and materials
Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher's expectations, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing program goals in the home environment.
Directs instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student aides for the purpose of providing an effective school program and addressing the needs of individual students.
Provide mentoring through individual check-ins, goal-setting, and case management
Design and implement appropriate team-building plan
Significant experience in farming or gardening. The program requires challenging physical work, and the teacher must be able to model expectations and provide an effective knowledge base. Significant physical abilities may include lifting/carrying, reaching/handling, talking/hearing, near/far visual activity/depth perception and standing/walking for varying periods of time.
Strong skills, background and extensive training in your area of endorsement
Demonstrated proficiency in writing and oral communication skills
Demonstrated ability to connect with students, staff and community members in a mutually respectful, supportive and accessible manner
Develop, modify, adjust curriculum to meet the individual needs of students
Strong student management capabilities
Demonstrated sensitivity to cultural, developmental, religious and ethnic diversity of student and community
Must be punctual and dependable, able to work well with others
Follow School Board policies and procedures
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
