ABOUT ROCHESTER SCHOOL DISTRICT

Rochester is a growing community located in Western Washington approximately 20 miles south of Olympia off of I-5.  Residents of Rochester enjoy life in a beautiful, rural setting with tremendous recreational, cultural and social activities readily available. The district is located 90 miles from White Pass ski area, 85 miles from Seattle, 90 miles from Portland and only 60 miles from the wonderful beaches of the Pacific Ocean. The nearby communities of Olympia and Centralia have full service hospitals and offer extensive retail shopping and support services.

The Rochester School District services 2100 students in five facilities.  The district is proud of its educational programs and the highly skilled professionals who lead them. Grand Mound Elementary School has an enrollment of 500 students in grades 3-5.

SCOPE OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include providing leadership aligned and committed to the District's Strategic Plan for the continual improvement of educational programs for all students; a commitment to equity and building a diverse school community; maintaining positive staff relationships with all stakeholders of the Rochester School District; directing staffing and budgetary decisions, and maintaining commitment to the District's mission statement. The Elementary School Principal provides leadership that:

  • Leads staff in the use and facilitation of technology in the delivery of curriculum, instruction and assessment.
  • Demonstrates committed collaboration with the superintendent, district office directors, principal colleagues, associations and unions to ensure systemic planning and implementation of the District's Strategic Plan goals and measures.
  • Fosters school spirit, traditions and a positive school culture.
  • Communicates information to stakeholders in multiple, meaningful ways.
  • Participates in and provides professional development and models current and best instructional practices.
  • Models effective instructional leadership with staff and colleagues and demonstrates a strong commitment to equitable outcomes for all students.
  • Ensures effective systems are in place to monitor student progress.
  • Promotes an environment which fosters high expectations for students, staff and self.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree and valid Washington State principal and teacher certificates.
  • A working knowledge of current District student achievement initiatives (MTSS, Literacy, Multilingual education, etc.).
  • Ability to structure time and manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Successful fingerprint/background check

  • Demonstrated ability to bring about change in a school through anticipating problems, meeting needs and sharing decisions through the use of effective problem-sharing strategies.
  • Skill at facilitating team-oriented behavior.
  • Ability to collaborate across networks and lead by influence.
  • Successful experience managing human and fiscal resources.
  • Experience using equity lens/tool for decision making
  • Experience using My School Data and Skyward
  • Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning, trauma sensitive and culturally responsive practices and Kagan strategies.
  • Experience with Marzano Instructional Framework.
