Bus Monitor
Reports to: Director of Transportation Location: Transportation Department
Bargaining Unit: Public School Employees FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Job Summary:
Bus monitors work alongside bus drivers to manage student behavior, maintain order, and assist with loading and unloading buses.
Required Qualifications:
● High School Diploma or equivalent
● Ability to communicate effectively, possess awareness of self and others, listen actively, be patient, incorporate humor/lightheartedness into work, be empathic, possess a growth mindset, and be customer-service oriented
● Ability to support the District’s vision, mission, goals, and culture code including the belief that all students can succeed
● Ability to work with students in a productive, positive manner
● Ability to work with colleagues in a professional, courteous manner
● Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations
Preferred Qualifications:
· Ability to speak Spanish
· Experience working with youth
· Experience working with diverse populations
Essential Functions:
· Assists with loading and unloading students and possibly student equipment on school buses or vans
· Ensures all students behave in a safe manner
· Redirects student behavior when appropriate
· Assists medically fragile students with loading and unloading on buses
· Assists with behavior management of students as outlined in the student’s individual education plan
· Works collaboratively with administration
· Assists drivers in maintaining order, minimizing disruptions, and maintaining safety
· Administers first aid to students if appropriate
· Attends trainings as directed or appropriate
· Develops and maintains appropriate relationships with other staff, families, and students
· Other duties as assigned
Salary: $19.22 - $23.64 depending on experience
Work schedule: 6.25 hours per day, M-F, 192 days per school year
