Job Title: Assistant Director of Special Education

Overview: The Lewis County Small Schools Cooperative is a collaborative entity formed to provide high-quality special education services to students in Lewis County's small, rural school districts. We ensure the students of Adna, Boistfort, Evaline, Morton, Mossyrock, Napavine, Oakville, Onalaska, PeEll, Toledo, and Winlock school districts receive the best services available.
The Assistant Director of Special Education will support the development, implementation, and management of special education programs within the district. This role involves collaborating with educators, parents, and external agencies to ensure that students with disabilities receive high-quality educational services in compliance with federal and state regulations.
This position will be hired by the Napavine School District to serve all of the districts in the Lewis County Small Schools Cooperative. The physical work location for this position will be based in the Adna School District.
Key Responsibilities:
● Program Development: Assist in the design and implementation of special education programs that meet the needs of students with diverse disabilities.
● Compliance Oversight: Ensure adherence to IDEA, state regulations, and district policies regarding special education services.
● Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, support staff, and administrators to promote inclusive practices and enhance the educational experience for students with disabilities.
● Training and Support: Provide professional development and resources for staff on special education best practices, interventions, and instructional strategies.
● Individualized Education Plans (IEPs): Support the development and monitoring of IEPs, ensuring that they are tailored to meet the specific needs of each student.
● Data Analysis: Collect and analyze data on student performance to inform program improvements and ensure accountability.
● Parent and Community Engagement: Foster positive relationships with parents and community members, addressing concerns and facilitating effective communication.
● Crisis Intervention: Provide guidance and support in crisis situations involving students with disabilities.
● Budget Management: Assist in the preparation and management of the special education budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources.
● Advocacy: Advocate for the needs of students with disabilities within the school community and ensure equitable access to educational opportunities.
Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or related field.
● Minimum of 5 years of experience in special education, including leadership roles.
● Strong knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations.
● Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
● Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Experience with data-driven decision-making and program evaluation.
● Familiarity with inclusive education practices and multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS).
● Leadership experience in a school or district setting.
