Substitute Kitchen Helpers

The Substitute Kitchen Helper will assist the kitchen staff in preparing and serving meals to students and staff at Elma School District. This is a substitute position, which means the individual will be called upon to fill in for regular staff members as needed.

Benefits:

Sick Leave - Substitutes earn one (1) hour of sick leave for every Forty (40) hours worked in each district

Hourly Substitute Pay Rate:  $22.03 per hour

Required Attachments:

  • Copy of HS Diploma/Transcripts OR GED Diploma/Transcripts
  • Copy of valid Washington State Food Worker card

Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent

  • Demonstrated aptitude for successful performance of tasks listed
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to remain standing during entire shift
  • Ability to manually move, shelve, stack, or raise from floor to table or serving area heavy objects (pots, pans, trays, and food supplies) weighing up to 35 pounds
  • Such alternatives to the above as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
  • Prior job-related experience paid or volunteer

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Maintains the highest standards of safety and cleanliness in the kitchen
  • Maintains all food handling and storage in compliance with state health department guidelines
  • Prepares food according to a planned menu and determines if the finished product is of best quality, both in flavor and appearance before it is served
  • Serves breakfast and/or lunches to students and staff
  • Cleans cafeteria area, including the sanitation and wiping down of tables prior to storage
  • Reports immediately to the food service supervisors any problems or accidents occurring in the kitchen or on the cafeteria premises
  • Assist with inventory management and restocking supplies
  • Reports to the food service supervisors any faulty or inferior quality food that is received
  • Performs the daily cleaning of all kitchen equipment, the washing and sterilizing of all dishes, silverware, and utensils
  • Performs the essential of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Completes work at assigned workstation(s)
  • Consistently deals with people in a courteous and professional manner
